Talaga huh! gusto mong maging Pro. O baka pro-blema. Anyway, if you have determination to become a pro tennis player. you must be a hardworker and have a self-descipline.

I think what you want to ask is, how can I take my game to the next level.  kasi kung usapan lang pro level is really at the ATP level, or the lower level of that is ITF.  Now if you have what it takes to compete at the ITF level and earn lots and lots of points, you can then compete at the ATP level.  So, as a start check out http://www.itftennis.com/mens/startingout/index.asp.  You see this is where PHILTA comes in to play.  PHILTA has an association to ATF. http://asiantennis.com/about_atf/overview.htm, where ATF has an association to ITF.

So, get those PHILTA points stacked up. hope that helps.

It would really be a good for Philippine Tennis if we can have a commercial/pro tennis league here in the Philippines much like in Basketball i.e. the PBA or an amateur club like the PBL.  That way, it will be viable for players to get serious in the sport knowing that it is a means of livelihood later on.  As it becomes a business, funding will be easier to come by like in Boxing or in Basketball.  We all know that there are available "commercial" players.  All we need is for a group of business people to set up the "Philippine Tennis Pro League (PTPL)" and organize it like the PBA.  However, for the business sector to get into this, PTPL has to be viable.  It will only be worth their investment if tennis games (like the UAAP or age group tournaments or other tennis tournaments) will be supported by lots and lots of spectators much like an Ateneo-Lasalle basketball game.  What if their rivalry in basketball trickles down to tennis?  Just imagine the positive effect this will have on Philippine tennis...!

This is where all those letters that we will be sending those UAAP & NCAA School to throw their full support for their tennis teams will come in. I've send mine and have inform others as well to do the same.

gusto mo maging pro sa atin??? 6 hours of training a day for 5 years. kasama na ang conditioning, competition overseas and good coaching. why doesn't anyone ask cecil mamiit or beeyong sison what it's like? the money for overseas competition is what you need. this is where the problem lies.

blunt ang reply ni dencio pero totoo. pero sabi nga ni ruud we'd be very happy if you do! so prove us wrong and we'll be very happy for you...  Smiley

i think, ideally, to be a tennis pro
- start young
- hire a professional tennis coach (if you can afford one)
- join in a lot of tournaments including international tourneys if possible

if you get a good ranking baka makakuha ka pa ng sponsor. malaking tulong kapag may sponsor.
if you can get sponsors (like head or adidas), makakatulong yan sa gamit (rackets, shoes and tennis apparels).

i hate to tell you this but @ 21, think of other ways. if you spent 6 hours a day everyday training for the next 5 years. the chances of you making the top 100 is slim to none. i don't think some coach will in florida will waste his time training a player from scratch. you will be 26 by the time you are finished with your 5 year period. what do you think you will have accomplished then?

Guys,
NEVER EVER under ESTIMATE ANYBODY, thats lesson #1.. did you remember Michael Stich of Germany? he did not play tennis until 18 yrs old and made it to the top 4 by 24 yrs old.
Let me tell u, January 1998 Milpitas California, US NTRP 4.5 state closed tournament.. the number 1 seed is a 62 years old man, and used his racket like a windshield wiper, both sides. I have never seen anybody as consistent as this old man and whopped everybody's butt..Look at him, and you would laugh..

2001 NC state tournament, I lost to a very thin little 38 yr old man about 5-2" tall weighing i thought was only 80 lbs..

1990 MaRY Pierce(early career) lost to LOZANO in doubles(a filipino player in women's doubles pro in Oakland California)Virginia Slims tournament. Lozano i thought was only 4ft 10 inches tall and very slim. But when she served.... boy... she kneels down to the floor that her skirt would actually touch the floor... bends her back enormously and lounge about 2 ft off the floor delivers a thunderous serve of 115MPH clock served..
I never knew what happen to her.. but I can only advise you fellows

i hate to tell you this but @ 21, think of other ways. if you spent 6 hours a day everyday training for the next 5 years. the chances of you making the top 100 is slim to none. i don't think some coach will in florida will waste his time training a player from scratch. you will be 26 by the time you are finished with your 5 year period. what do you think you will have accomplished then?

i agree, its logical and practical, but who knows... goodluck maselguart

With your ambition to be a pro tennis player I was expecting na atleast siguro may sarili ka ng racquet. But no problem, just be there on sunday with your tennis attire (shirt, tennis shorts, socks and tennis shoes). I'm sure we can source a spare racquet for you to borrow for the clinic.

Additional, I am also expecting that you do the homework of getting to know all aspect of tennis including the attire..
