Rich parents would love this pin. This will limit the competition to the advantage of their kids. Whoever patronizes this pin is not after the betterment of tennis since majority of the better junior players will not be able to afford it thus limiting the participants. How can we discover young and deserving players with this kind of a program of limiting participants. If we are really concerned about the improvement and promotion of tennis, we should be united and boycott this unjust policy. How can an organization run without members? As long as nobody will bite their offer, it will not push through.

Based on my Phil Amateur swimming association experience, Mark Joseph is on the way out because the parents and coaches were united. They did not pay pasa expensive fees and instead boycotted Mark's program and ousted him.

Re davao rvp, for export na to visayas and luzon. Steffi's mom is the sister of davao rvp.

nope, not yet.  Thinking aloud lang, how much would be the actual cost if we outsource this (issuance of PIN) from Philta?  As you mentioned, smart cards would cost just 100.00 pesos.

USTA is $40/year.
here's my opinion. i agree. and look at the bright side, if everyone is a member. PHILTA  would be able to start implementing programs that are long overdue. but again, memberships are not enough. corporate partners are needed to help with this cause.

hi PTO/TP.org family!   I believe that I would not be able to comment on this issue without being unbiased because I am a tennis parent and I have a daughter who is an age grouper.  This is my 2 centavos worth on this issue:

To my knowledge, the practice of issuing PIN or membership numbers to its members is done in most countries.  The USTA issues a USTA membership number (renewable yearly at USD 18.00 or you can avail of a 5 year membership at a discounted rate) same as ITF (IPIN).  Now, it seems like the PHILTA is adopting this policy. While having a PHILTA membership has several benefits as listed in the circular signed by Mr. Villanueva, they are not what you may really call as value added service.  To begin with, Philta must provide a tennis calendar so everyone is aware of the schedules of the tournaments or it must provide the players with the rankings.  Item C in the Philta memo is quite ambigous.  If having a Philta ID allows my daughter to compete in ITF or ATF sanctioned tournaments then having a Philta membership ID is really value added service and worth procuring.  In relation to this, having a USTA I.D. entitles the member to a 10% discount on tennis equipment, shoes, apparel, etc. that having it is provides REAL benefit to the member.  There are more tangible benefits to being a USTA member which I have to research on.  The point is, the added cost of having a PHILTA membership must not be geared towards earning more revenues for Philta but rather, to augment to the support that it should extend to the development of tennis.  Having said this, I guess what Philta should have done was:

1)  Move down the deadline on getting the Philta membership ID to 1 January 2009 pending discussions with all concerned parties
2)  Forge partnership with different tennis vendors so certain discounts may be extended to Philta ID holders so that the cost in getting a Philta ID could be recovered.
3)  Offer discounted court rates at Rizal Memorial tennis courts for Philta ID holders
4)  Provide detailed mechanics on the procurement of such membership i.e.(is the ID valid until Dec. 2008 or valid for 1 year to expire on the date the ID was procured)?
5)  Provide other value added services for Philta ID holders
6)  Provision of regular development/training for members

note:  Please add to the above list

For more info about the USTA, you may visit USTA.com

In closing, I believe that Philta's decision to implement something like this akin to USTA or ITF should be viewed as a blessing rather than a curse.  First, when Philta tries to assimilate the "best practices" of a tennis organization, it cannot just focus  on collection of membership dues but it must also address the REAL responsibilities and accountability that go with it much like what USTA and other tennis organizations are doing.   Next, it gives the tennis public the opportunity to demand ACCOUNTABILITY  from Philta and to demand from Philta that it RATIONALIZE and JUSTIFY its existence as the Custodian of Philippine tennis.  Finally, this serves as a compelling factor for Philta to improve on its services and be one of the better run sports association in the Philippines.  Once PHILTA is able to do so, let us support it to the best of our abilities.  This is of course a huge huge challenge.  It will be tough for Philta to effect changes on its own.  I believe it needs the prodding and support and reminder and encouragement and chastisement and help and a lot of other things from all sectors and from all Filipinos most specially from Filipino tennis supporters.  As demonstrated by the PTO Helpline, there are hundreds of ways for us to extend assistance.  May God bless Philippine Tennis!

Oo nga naman. Bakit napaka mahal? Tennis vendors like my self can extend big discounts to encourage people to get into tennis.

Dito sa Davao, we have Davao Association of Tennis Clubs(DATeC). We have more than 30 member clubs. Ginawa to dahil yung philta rvp dito, alam mona...... Prince, wilson and dunlop ang sponsors. Head nalang ang supporter ng philta dito.

DATeC has its own tennis academy for kids. Although 2 years palang tong academy.

Kailangan nila ng participants in short.

i won't mention a name pero i think i know that guy..
i used to play age group tournaments before in dvo, but then conflicts and pandadaya, bias, and so much more have occured..kaya i stopped and avoid joining tennis tournaments in davao.bwahaha sorry..the worst part is hindi lang ako, pati buong group namin sa CDO binanned nmin ang pagsali sa dvo dahil lng sa sistemang gnagamit nla..la lang share lng..i dunno if ganito pa rin ngayon, tagal na kc un e.hihi

talaga?? oh my. diba steffi dizon's dad... your friend is an active memeber of the davao tennis??

i know stef's dad but i dont know if he is part of the scams and scandals.yes she is an active member because taga dun siya sa davao.

what kind of pandadaya ba?

Greetings Junbug:

Thanks for sharing your opinions. This is easier said than done. I'm sure everyone would gladly pay if only they have the resources. Think of the grassroots players, our ballboys who has the passion for the game but hardly has enough even to buy a decent pair of tennis shoes. Do you expect them to pay 500php a year just to secure their PIN? If they have the money do you think they'd be picking up balls for a measly P25 per game?

The bright side that I see is, if we can develop a strong and effective grassroots program, initiated by an effective and charismatic PHILTA Official. Thus gaining popular support from would be sponsors from the private sector. Again, we need everybody's contribution on this endevour. Leadership is not the position you attain by being installed by the powers that be. It is the following and confidence in your leadership by the very people you govern because they believe you can something good for the sport.

Apologies guys.

Reason?  -> PHILTA has now implemented the no PIN no ratings / rankings rule.

I'm a new member of PTO and only realised now that this is such a divisive topic. I guess whether we like it or not some amount of discussions / ideas will come out of this because it affects us all.

Cooler heads lang po.

First question ko - Anybody here an official or in anyway affiliated with PHILTA? The reason I ask is - please ask them to read the thread - this way they will know what people are saying about the PIN.

Cheers,

Ed Puno came here last week and we had dinner together with Tennis asstn. leaders here and exchanges ideas about the development of tennis. I think he has no touch with Philta because Juntaphil has their own program.
