If she is the same Stacey Tan of Lakewood, California, then she is . She is a good junior player probably as talented as Denise Dy though not as experienced and savvy. Definitely she's not on the same  league with Riza Zalameda.

i think she might be better than zalameda. here's why.

$10,000 St Joseph, MO USA
C10 01 Aug 2006 to 06 Aug 2006 Entry : Q Hard (O)
32 W   Lindsay JONES (USA)  6-1 7-6(3)
16 W   Laurianne HENRY (USA)  6-3 6-0
QF W   Tiya ROLLE (USA)  6-4 6-3
SF W   Alexandra PODKOLZINA (RUS)  6-4 6-4
FR L   Anne YELSEY (USA)  3-6 3-6

she lost the finals though but good enough for a 15 years old (or 16).

$50,000 San Francisco, CA Qualifying Draw USA
C50 08 Oct 2006 to 09 Oct 2006 Entry : WC Hard (O)
32 W   Mami INOUE (USA)  6-0 6-3
16 L   Alexandra STEVENSON (USA)  1-6 6-4 3-6

she lost to the former ranked 18th in the world.

Zalameda recently won the Edmond, Oklahoma sattelites. Probably, Stacey Tan has more potential but right now Zalameda is better. I used to watch Tan's high school matches and some Southern Cal matches  and she is basically a defensive counterpuncher whereas Zalameda has more power and  weapons. Zalameda has a comparable or better record than Stacey Tan at 15 or 16 years old. As far as I know Stacey haven't won any USTA  National tournaments at 15 or 16. Anyway, time will tell how far will Stacey go. The Filams to watch are Raymond Sarmiento and Ruben Gonzales.

champion na sya for this week. magaling talaga sya. defensive type of player talaga sya and you'll never see her attack the net kung hindi siguradong puntos nya.

next week hindi na sya mag-lalaro for qualifying, kasama na agad sya sa main draw. sana manalo ulit sya for next week.

I just talked to her kanina and I don't think she will be playing next week because i heard that she has to come back to lakewood for school. Sayang nga talaga eh. Regarding her offensive play at net, she'll probably try to improve on it.

However, I think that another Fil-AM, Maureen Diaz, will play for next week. Let's cross our fingers that she'll win this time.   Grin

sabi kasi ng ballboy na nakausap ko maglalaro sya next week. sayang naman kung hindi kasi nasa kanya na yung momentum. i talked to her guardian and asked her kung bakit wala syang junior ranking sa itf and she explained to me that school is stacey's priority. hopefully she'll join more tournaments sa states to further improve her ranking.

Ruel, Lazaro reach semis

The Philippine Star 11/24/2006

Second-seeded Rolando Ruel Jr. and No. 3 Alexander Lazaro scored similar hard-earned victories yesterday to reach the semifinals of the P400,000 Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships at the PCA indoor shell-clay courts.

Ruel, who had a five-year stint in the RP Davis Cup team, bounced back from a first-set loss to beat national coach Chris Cuarto, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

"He played a lot better in the first set. But I was able to adjust in the second set and just played smart to win the match," said the 28-year-old Ruel, winner of the Abalos Cup and Escudero Cup early this year.

Ruel, a veteran of the 2001 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, will meet the winner between fourth seed Elbert Anasta and fifth seed Yannick Guba, who were still playing at presstime.

Lazaro, quarterfinalist for the past four years, rallied past No. 11 Jaime Solon, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-0, to forge a semifinal showdown with top seed Johnny Arcilla.

Arcilla, the 2001 champion, outclassed RP Junior Davis Cup team member Ralph Kevin Barte, 6-1, 6-1.

In the ladies singles, fourth seed Arra Micayabas outlasted No. 8 Fil-Spanish Nivea Bezich, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, to join the top three seeds in the semifinals of the Philta-sanctioned event presented by Dunlop in cooperation with HP Phils., PVL Restaurant, Little Lawrence, Burlington Socks, Philippine Star and the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Micayabas, a member of the UST tennis team, faces top seed Fil-American Denise Dy, who beat fifth seed Trudy Amoranto, 6-4, 6-1.

Second seed Bambi Zoleta, last year’s runner-up, defeated No. 6 Aileen Rogan, 6-2, 7-5, to advance against third seed Michelle Pang, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over seventh-seeded Bien Zoleta, 6-2, 6-1.
