IT WAS A ROUGH AND TOUGH MATCH FOR MARC YESTERDAY IN ISRAEL
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
Marc lost a rough and tough match today in the second round of the qualifying to a player from Portugal 57, 63, 64 who earlier beat a player from Israel in his 1st round match.
Marc should have won this match in straight sets but he let his opponent get into his head which affected his focus and concentration resulting in him loosing the big and important points of the match. Excuse me for saying this but Marc’s opponent is a big jerk! He thrives through verbal confrontation and every time Marc is in a position to take the lead he cheats so badly and calls every ball that catches the line out. There is no umpire in the qualifying and players have to call the match by themselves. At one point the match got so ugly it turned into a shouting match and then it almost turned into a boxing match. Marc was just so angry he wanted to punch the guy who continued taunting him to a point I have to call the roving umpire to put order into this match. I even had an argument with this guy because it was so obvious that he was cheating and using this as part of his tactic just to win. Marc even had a break point at 4 all in the 3rd set to take a 5-4 lead when the guy hooked him again. This guy was just doing everything to annoy Marc and another long argument and shouting match transpired after that point. But in the end Marc came out at the loosing end.
After the match I told Marc that I was not at all disappointed in the way he played and the way he was hitting the ball aggressively, but if there is one thing that he needs to develop is the way he deals with confrontation and arguments with his opponents which he gets easily sucked in. I told him some players use confrontation to keep their adrenalin up and to destroy the momentum of their opponents, but in Marc’s case the effect of confrontation is very negative which brings out the worst in him. Marc gets so hyped up during the confrontation, but unfortunately after the arguments are over he looses steam and gets exhausted emotionally, which causes him to let his opponent of the hook instead of finishing him off.
This happened also to Jeson a few years back when he played an American player in the Aegon Grass court championships. Jeson has learned his lesson already but as I recall Jeson’s opponent was harassing him in every call he made and at times was already cursing Jeson directly to intimidate him. I got so pissed off with this behavior and I confronted his coach for that. The problem was Jeson lost his focused and concentration and was not able to recover because he got so angry deep inside and he was just thinking of kicking the guys butt after their match as he told me. What I told Jeson after his match was that the strategy of his opponent worked like a charm and that he won the match by getting into his head even if we knew that he was the better player. For some players and coaches winning is everything and to them it doesn’t matter what the cost or how it’s done.
The best way to deal with these types of players is to avoid getting sucked in these useless and emotionally draining confrontations. This is where these players get their extra needed energy boost and adrenaline especially in tight situations and important points. Turning your back every time they start acting up and ignoring them by walking away makes these players crazier to a point they blow up because you’re not getting sucked into what they want and that is to argue with them. This is the same thing I advice Marc to do the next time around, to save up on his emotions and to channel it more positively to the task at hand which is to put his opponent away for the win instead of wasting it in useless long arguments that drains him after.
Marc is in good spirit and he went back to training with Jeson immediately after his loss instead of felling bad and sorry. This is the right attitude that I believe will give him the break he is waiting for in the near future.
Until next time God bless to all
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

Salamat CoachMTec/Cypher....usually may halong racist and superiority complex yan mga yan din....kailangan talaga buo loob ng bata which Jeson is doing....gudluck!
p.s. why is Marc Reyes still playing for Italy? If he's sponsored by a Filipino Congressman, dapat lang Pilipinas din ang representation nya...

My comments: this kind of things alreay happened in last summers US tour. Seems Marc is not learning from it.
Besides turning the back to the opponents mumbling and whatever, whicj is very good tactic, he can do two more things: a) just tell the player "next cheating call and I go and ask for umpire". that is according to the rules, and if/when it happens he should just do it.I dont understand why this did not happen.
b) The coach should also not approach the cheating opponent and argue, nor ask for roving umprire. As far as I know it should be the player only. Otherwise that is kind of coaching, helping your player make decisions during match, also against the rules. Better cheat full out in that case.

And then a question to coach Manny Tecson c/o Cypther:
I guess the most difficult and challenging thing for Marc and Jeson tennis development is lack of good sparring in the Philippines.
I good rule of thumb is so spar 50 % on your level, 25 % lower, and 25 % higher.
Arcilla is same level, but apart from him all other players in the country are far behind, not even on similar level, so much less on higher level! Sparr 100 % down doesnt sound good. (And spar vs Marc is also a bit limited as they gt to know eachother too much.
How do you handle that difficulty?

A BIG 1ST ROUND SINGLES WIN FOR JESON PLUS MARC AND JESON ENTERS THEIR 1ST DOUBLES QUARTERS AS A TEAM HERE IN ISRAEL PRO FUTURES
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
It’ been a great day for our team and a big first round win for Jeson when he defeated Jankovic’s of France the singles finalist and semifinalist of both Men’s Pro Futures 1 and 2 in Thailand where we also competed last year in November. Jankovics even defeated Danai Udomchoke a top 100 plus ATP player and a former top 60 player in the World on his way to the singles finals that is why I knew from the moment we saw the draw yesterday this match is going to be a big test for Jeson and that we have to plan our strategy very carefully.
All the coaching, hard work, training and preparation before coming to Israel paid off and where put into good use. Jeson followed my instructions to the letter and today’s match was a hard hitting match that I expected since Jankovic is very aggressive but also consistent from the baseline. My instruction to Jeson was not to back off and to stay close and tight to the baseline when hitting his ground strokes because he cannot afford to be defensive and too far back from the baseline against Jankovic. Our goal was to take the ball early and to dictate the rallies for him to be able to attack the net. This is easier said than done but we have been working hard on our footwork and quickness to enable us to do this strategy. For us Asians this is the only way we can counter the height and power of our European and American counterparts. Also by staying closer to the baseline Jeson can cut the angles and run down Jankovics shots earlier. Plus the balls are not bouncing very high so he must step in on his ground strokes instead of waiting for the ball to come to him.
I have made a lot of changes in Jeson’s game especially his forehand and serve. His forehand swing is now more compact to give him more time to prepare when handling big serves and deep groundstrokes. While his serve is definitely not going to be a big man’s serve but a serve he can depend on based on accuracy and depth to set-up his groundstrokes and net game. These are the key things in today’s match against Jankovics. Jeson’s forehand was working brilliantly and his crosscourt did the damage most of the time. His serve also bailed him out in some very tense and close games in the second set that could have easily swung the match to Jankovic. In one instance Jeson was down 15-40 double break points for Jankovic at 4 all in the second set and Jeson came up with 2 big first serves to get back to deuce. Jeson’s serves where not clean aces but it got the job done and Jeson was able to hold that serve for a 5-4 lead. After that game the momentum shifted to Jeson because Jankovic is now feeling the pressure which resulted in him double faulting at a very crucial point at deuce to give Jeson match point.
The last point was just so tense and the rallies went back and fort until Jeson got the chance he needed to use his forehand. Jeson ripped a crosscourt forehand and followed it up to the net where he executed a well timed drop volley for a winner.
This was indeed a good win and a good start of the year for us. This tournament in Israel is tough and we are the only Asians in the draw, majority of the players are from Europe. Also most of Jeson’s batch mates in the Juniors are also here; Marton Fuscovics who is 1 year older than Jeson and was the former no.1 player in the world and Wimbledon Junior champion, Dominic Thiem who is the same age as Jeson and was ranked no.3 in the world and French Open finalist, Horansky of the Czech Republic who is also the same age as Jeson and the Italian Open Junior champion and Russian no.1 Baluda 1 year older than Jeson and also a former top 10 player in the world. These young up and coming players and their coaches took the same path as we did by turning Pro after their juniors and I believe all of us coaches have a common goal and program structure for our players to reach their dreams.
By the way Marc and Jeson also won their doubles match today defeating a team from Israel 6-1, 7-5. This is their first quarterfinals in the doubles since their partnership last year. Marc has been playing very well and training very hard, I believe he will make an impact in the coming weeks here in Israel.
Well got to go for now and until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny

congrats for this win. The fresh guy is ranked around 600 in the world so that 950 ranked Jeson beat him is a positive surprise. Next round is the second seed player in the tournament, of course VERY difficult, ranked around 300 I think.
I am also deligthed to hear that the team workd on Jesons forehand, previously it was too complicated in the backswing; so a more compact forehand sounds so right. Also his serve was also a weakness, glad they has been working on that also. I think it was too much shoulder coil and kneebend and too low contact point, and too little upper arm pronation, resulting in weak speed. Great news.

Jeson's next oponent is Qualifier Maxim Dubarenco of Madagascar. Dubarenco is as same age as Jeson and was ranked No. 19 in the qorld in juniors last year. Dubarenco upset 2nd seed Ruan Roelofse of South Africa.

MARC AND JESON DEFEATS THE NO.2 SEED IN DOUBLES TO ENTER SEMIS
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
I am very happy with the progress of our boys in this tough Israel circuit wherein the majority of players are from France, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, Russia, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, South Africa, Denmark, Netherlands and other strong European countries. It is like any other tournament in Europe and the level is no different.
It is winter time here in Israel and it is very cold plus the competition can easily wore you down, these are the kind of tournaments that can make or break a player’s will but with proper guidance, coaching and training all of these challenges can have a positive out come and will make a player stronger both mentally and physically.
Our boys are standing firm against the competition and with all the hard work that where putting in it is bound to pay off. Today Marc and Jeson defeated the no.2 seeds Sakharov of France and Vermeer of Luxembourg 6-2, 4-6, (12-10) to enter their first semifinals since their partnership last year.
Marc will earn his first ATP point in doubles while for Jeson this will be his second semifinal appearance. Last year Jeson and Dennis Lajola reached the semis in doubles at the Laos Men’s Futures wherein he got his first ATP point. This win today is very important for us because in future tournaments that we will compete in, both of our players will now get priority in entering the doubles event because of their ATP points. Unlike before we could not even get in the doubles draw unless were given a wildcard because of the other players being prioritize due to their ranking and points.
Marc and Jeson’s partnership is getting better in each tournament they have competed in and it is a different feeling when you have two Pinoys playing with each other and winning against players from other countries. There is a sense of pride that you see and feel every time you see them win. Unlike before when I use to pair Jeson with players from other countries the feeling is half baked. Marc’s status will soon be changed to Philippines as what Philta has told us. We have applied for this status change last year and Philta said it is being processed already and was already sent to the ITF.
In singles today Jeson lost a tough match to Maxim Dubarenco 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 who is 6 foot 6 and the player who defeated the no. 2 seed Roellofse of South Africa easily yesterday 6-3, 6-2. The level of the qualifiers and the main draw has very little difference and today the top seed from Denmark also lost to Partl of Slovakia another qualifier.
Jeson is playing really well and he is competing at the same level as anyone here. He could have won this match in straight sets but to the credit of Dubarenco when he was under pressure and double break points down at 4 all against Jeson in the 1st set he came up with 2 big first serves much like what happened in Jeson’s match against Jankovic of France yesterday. That’s tennis, at times these things goes your way and at times to your opponent. You must just take it in stride and move on to the next point, next game or set.
This is just our first tournament of the year and Jeson has gained another ATP point to bring his total to 10 points which will again develop his singles world ranking in the men’s. I just gave him more positive coaching to lift his spirit. That is why when he came back to play the doubles he was on fire and very determined to win.
Marc is also moving forward in his development as a Pro player and he is gaining confidence and respect here in this circuit. Marc has been constantly playing and hitting with different players to keep building his game and confidence to prepare for the next leg. With this win in doubles today I could see a positive change in the attitude of Marc which will surely help him in his coming matches in the qualifying.
After their doubles match Jeson and Marc went back to hit some more and I have set them up with players from Austria and South Africa to practice with. This is the value of competing at a high level tournament. There are so many strong players to practice and hit with and the way our boys are playing, I have no problem setting them up. Definitely I have been maximizing my network of friends and coaches in this circuit to give our boys the extra hitting and training for their continuous development and preparation.
Until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

Mark Reyes will play Maxim Dubarenco (same guy who booted out Jeson last week) Jeson Patrombon will play James Allemby (I think Jeson will have an easy time with this one).

JESON ENTERS FINAL QUALIFYING OF ISRAEL MEN’S FUTURES 2
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
This second and third leg in Israel is a lot tougher and a lot harder with the addition of more ATP ranked players from Europe joining the main draw and qualifying of these tournaments. Just to get in the main draw proper you have to win 3 hard matches in 2 days.
Jeson today won 2 matches in a row to book a seat in the final qualifying and his first round match he defeated James Allembry from Great Britain 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) who is a solid player. This player made it to the main draw last week after going through several rounds in the qualifying. Allembry’s is a solid player from the back court and he does not give you a lot of free points from the baseline, but I know Jeson has the type of game to dismantle Allembry’s style of play.
Jeson and I talked about our strategy last night and I told him he must be patient with the rallies but at the same time be aggressive when he gets the chance to attack. In the first set both players where holding serves until Jeson got a break at 3 all for a 4-3 lead. Jeson was able to serve well the next game to set up his forehand for 2 clean winners and there where a couple of long rallies that Jeson was able to capitalize for a 5-3 lead. The following game with Allembry serving, Jeson immediately jumped to a 0-40 lead with superb returning which set him up for 3 set points. The next point took 10 rallies before Jeson was able to attack the net for a clean volley winner and the set at 6-3. At this point Allembry was very angry as he smashed his racket 3 times in the court and the roving umpire gave him a warning.
The second set was a different story and as I have told Jeson many times before when he sees his opponent bursting into anger, his opponent surely will be more aggressive in the rallies. That is exactly what happened and Allembry started hitting more aggressively and more freely plus it was finding the corners of the court. It was a battle this time but Jeson is holding firm, until Allembry broke Jeson’s serve for a 5-3 lead and was serving for the set. The next game Jeson played more aggressive on his returns and was hitting big on his groundstrokes. This was the right strategy to do even when you are down to keep your opponent under pressure and thinking in holding his serve. It paid off and Jeson broke Allembry’s serve and was able to hold his own to tie the set at 5 all. In the 11th game Allembry held serve for a 6-5 lead and on the 12th game it was Jeson’s turn to hold his own serve to put the set into a tiebreak.
During this tiebreak Jeson was always down in the count with Allembry leading 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3, but Jeson kept the pressure up and was pressing on his attack. Jeson was able to tie the count at 5 all and was able to deliver an ace for a 6-5 lead match point for Jeson. This time Allembry is really feeling the pressure and he double faulted at match point to give Jeson the win.
In his second match today after an hour rest Jeson plays the winner between a player from Switzerland or from Israel at another venue. We both ate a light lunch first together with Marc before proceeding to the other venue where Jeson played Ovil Orel of Israel the winner of that match. Jeson played even better in this match and defeated Orel in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to get into the final qualifying tomorrow.
Marc on the other hand had a tough opponent on his hands today. He played Dubarenco the 6 foot 6 player that beat the no.2 seed from South Africa who is a top 300 ATP player 6-3, 6-2 in the 1st round and Jeson in 3 sets last week. This goes to show that the level of the qualifying here is just as equal to the main draw.
Marc is playing solid tennis but lost the tight match 6-4, 6-3 after leading 4-2 in the 1st set and serving for a 5-2 lead. In the second set it was just 1 break of serve that decided this set and the win for Dubarenco. The quality of the rallies is superb and Marc is competing well which is the key to any player’s development.
Marc’s game is definitely more improve now than last year and it is just the beginning of the year. With all the changes we made in his game I am seeing positive results in his technical (serve, forehand, backhand, volleys and return of serve) and physical game. His mind set today was much better than last week and the quality of his opponent today was far different and higher than last week. I can see and fell that Marc is gaining a lot of confidence in every match he is competing in these tournaments which is the key to his development.
Got to go for now and until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

Jeson beat the Dutch opponent in a 3 set match. the opponent was ranked number 3 in the whole tournament and is ranked 350 in the world. that was a big win from Jeson, congrats.
In the next round he will meet a hungarian, a former number one in juniors, ranked around 500 today. Good luck, you have a chance!

JESON EARNS 11TH ATP POINT AGAINST TOUGH RIVALS FROM EUROPE
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
This tournament in Israel is proving to be the bench mark of so many up and coming young players in the world, testing and pitting their skills against much older rivals and mostly veterans in the ATP Tour. Most players here came from the ATP challenger Tours and some even made it to the Grand Slams.
Today was not so lucky for Dominc Thiem of Austria the French Open Juniors finalist and Eddie Herr champion, Horansky of Slovakia the Italian Open junior champion, Huang of Chinese Taipei, Delic Matte of Croatia and Dubarenco of Moldova who are all ranked in the top 10 and 20 junior players in the world last year. All these players lost in the 1st round of the main draw except for Delic of Croatia who lost to the opponent of Jeson from Slovakia in straight sets yesterday in their final qualifying and Dubarenco loosing to a player from Serbia also in the qualifying. The remaining batch mates of Jeson who also won today in their opening rounds in the main draw are Fuscovic of Hungary the Wimbledon Junior champion, James Maerselek the Aegon Grass Court junior champion and Victor Baluda of Russia who is seeded no. 8 in this tournament and are all top 10 junior players in the world 2 years ago. All these players are a year older than Jeson and all have been in the Men’s Tour full-time now for the past 2 years while this is just the 1st full-time year of Jeson in the men’s.
Jeson played tough tennis today to earn his 11th ATP point which will bring his ranking to the top 800 plus when he beat Danis Marko of Slovakia 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to enter the 2nd round of the main draw after winning 3 rounds in the qualifying here in Israel men’s futures wherein the draw in both qualifying and main are pre dominantly occupied by European players.
This tournament in Israel is the right venue and choice to test our skills and training against high level competition for the continued development of our players. Jeson and Marc is progressing very positively and with more coaching, training and matches they are getting stronger mentally, physically and tactically in each day we are spending here in this circuit.
Danis Marko of Slovakia is a very solid and hard hitting player. He also made it to the main draw last week and this guy is impressive. He hits his shots very flat and very deep to the baseline typical of European players who are use to very fast indoor surfaces.
Our strategy today as I told Jeson was to get more balls into play and to really get down low when hitting Danis shots. Jeson has to expect that there will be long and tough rallies from the baseline because it will not be easy for him to attack the net since Danis balls are consistently deep. This will also be a good test for Jeson to win from the backcourt and rely heavily on his ground strokes instead of his net game to win this match.
This was exactly what happened in the 1st set and jeson was always getting pinned downed from the baseline and Danis was out playing Jeson from the back court. Jeson was getting frustrated and I just told him to believe in his game.
We have been working very hard on Jeson’s consistency and variations in his groundstrokes and I just know Jeson will have to trust his game and find a way to win.
In the second set it went with serve till 5-4 and I can see Jeson’s confidence is growing. Jeson is playing smart and mixing his backhands with deep low slices which forced Danis to go down low and use topspin on his shots. This gave jeson the opportunity to step in on the ball and attack it since it is now bouncing higher. Jeson on the 10th game started stepping in more on his returns to set up his forehand which put a lot of pressure on Danis serve. Jeson immediately jumped to a 40-0 lead triple set points and on the last point a long rally occurred. For the 1st time Jeson won this particular rally to take the 2nd set 6-4 and that was the momentum shifter that we were waiting for.
In the 3rd set Jeson kept up the pressure by mixing his groundstrokes with the combination of the slice backhand in every long rally and proved to be the big difference in this match. After 1 all in the 3rd set Jeson won 4 games in a row to take a commanding lead 5-1 before Danis broke back Jeson’s serve in the 7th game.
In the 8th game with Danis serving Jeson stuck with his strategy and was rewarded triple match points. The following point Danis served an ace to bring the game score to 15-40. But on match point no.2 Jeson stepped in on his return to take the initiative on the rallies and once again a long hard hitting rally occurred. This time Jeson saw the opening on the down the line backhand and nailed it for a winner to take the win 3-6, 6-4, and 6-2.
Tomorrow Jeson will play the no. 3 seed Dutch player and I believe the way jeson is playing anything can happen in this match.
Until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

BIG WIN FOR TAPF TEAM PHILIPPINES BARGES INTO SINGLES QUARTERS
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
The Philippine flag is flying high here in Israel amongst the other top European nations when Jeson defeated the no.3 seed Van Der Dium of the Netherlands who is rank no. 349 in the ATP Men’s World Rankings 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to barge in his 2nd singles quarterfinal appearance since turning Pro last year. Jankovits the French player Jeson beat in the 1st leg also booked a quarterfinal berth by easily defeating the no. 8 seed Baluda of Russia the semifinalist in singles last week 6-2, 6-1. The other players who will comprise the other quarterfinal slots in singles are from Hungary, Slovakia, Great Britain, Italy, Israel and another French player who reached the finals last week.
All the hard work, coaching and training that we have been doing where put into good use in today’s match and I am very proud of the team for the 110% efforts they have been giving me especially when I push them daily to their limits in training. Some players could easily break in the circuit and just feel sorry for themselves and not work as hard anymore but our boys are different and I can see they are willing to listen to valuable coaching and their hungriness to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in their games is something I value and respect very much.
This tournament in Israel is the toughest we have competed in so far since turning Pro last year with players all over Europe and former top junior players in the world competing in it plus the world ranking cut off for the main draw is 600 and above with the top seed being ranked 220 in the world. Jeson’s win today is a good and positive indication that we have the skills, talent and perseverance to compete in the Pro level and win even if the main competition where coming from Europe.
This is just the start of the year and I believe we are heading towards the right direction in achieving our goals for this year. Match after match our player’s mental strength, game strategies, physical abilities and self belief are getting stronger and steadier even under heavy pressure in this circuit.
Today’s match is the 3rd three set match for Jeson that he has won and his 5th match of the tournament since going through qualifying. This goes to show that our boys are in great shape and their bodies are holding up well and not falling apart. We have been competing well and winning against guys who are more than six feet tall on a daily basis but we really don’t care about it. I have coached the boys to ignore the height and frame of our opponents and which country they come from because all of these things are already given factors that we have to deal with as Professionals. We cannot let the height factor or which country they come from be the reason why we loose a match, the bottom line is we will win and loose in the way we play and our belief in our own abilities and strength to win will be the key to our success in the Pros.
Tomorrow Jeson will be playing Fuscovic of Hungary the former no. 1 junior player in the world and Wimbledon singles champion 2 years ago. This is going to be a slugfest and a hard hitting match against 2 young up and coming Pro players in this circuit. Jeson is playing really well and his confidence is on the rise especially with this win today against a top 300 ATP player and the no.3 seed. Anything is possible in tomorrow’s match and the key would be to play the big points smart and aggressive to win.
Until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

JESON’S RIGHT KNEE INFLAMED
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
Early this morning when we went for our usual daily warm up before each match Jeson felt his right knee hurting and I was worried because for Jeson to be able to execute his game he needs his legs and foot speed to counter the power and strength of his bigger and taller opponents. I just knew the cause of this pain is due to the previous long and tough matches Jeson has to grind to win which is taking its toll on his legs and body. It’s harder for qualifiers because you have to win 3 matches in a row just to get to the main draw and you are up against main draw players whose minds, bodies and legs are much fresher.
Yesterday when Jeson beat the no. 3 seed in another three set marathon for his 3rd 3 set match that he has won and his 5th singles match since going through the qualifying I could sense his legs is starting to get more fatigue because of the scrambling and running to get to the shots of his opponents. Jeson has played a total of 13 difficult sets in singles since the qualifying to get to the quarters this week and 15 sets total in this 2nd leg alone here in Israel. Definitely the legs and the knees will have to give at some point.
We went to the physiotherapist for diagnosis and after a long consultation the physio said that this pain in the knee that Jeson is feeling is caused by an inflammation which he said for the good news is just normal to all players who have been winning matches consecutively because of the pounding of the feet and legs on the hard courts. The sensation Jeson is having in his knee is painful and will affect his movements drastically in his quarterfinal match but nothing to worry about and it is not anything serious said the physio. He also told us to ice the knee after the match twice a day and to take the anti inflammatory medicines that he gave us twice a day. Hopefully by the time the qualifying matches start this Saturday the swelling would have minimize and the pain would be lesser, but if the pain doesn’t subsides or change, then I will have to withdraw Jeson from the 3rd leg of the tournament.
Before Jeson’s match today against Fuscovic I could see and feel Jeson’s frustration because he knows he is playing really well and he knows he can beat him. But unfortunately he need’s his mobility to win and these are the things that can happen to any athlete in competition. Jeson still gave a good fight but loss 6-3, 6-2 and Fuscovic exploited Jeson’s lack of mobility by moving him side to side and playing aggressive from start to finish. But the 1st set was tight and Jeson could have won that set. It was just 1 break of serve and each game was very close. Jeson had double break points with Fuscovic serving at 3 all for a 4-3 lead, but again every time Fuscovic was in trouble he went with his slice backhand moving Jeson from side to side which forced Jeson to lean down on the right leg and bend the right knee which was the key to this match.
What I told him after his match was to keep his head up because he has done well in this 2nd leg and he has to fight hard to survive several tough matches that he could have easily lost which earned him respect amongst his peers. Also I reminded him that he defeated the no.3 seed from the Netherlands who is a top 300 ATP player which shows the improvement in all aspects of his game, from the mental, to the technical, to the strategical and the physical.
Jeson has earned another 2 ATP points by reaching the singles quarterfinals of this very tough 2nd leg here in Israel plus the 1 point he gained last week for a total of 12 points since turning Pro last year which will push up his ATP world ranking further.
Marc is getting ready for the qualifying this Saturday and has been working very hard and hitting with different players to maximize his exposure in this circuit for his development. Hopefully he plays well next week and comes up big in the third leg.
Until next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson

TOUGH DAY TODAY BUT WE WILL TAKE IT IN STRIDE!
Dear Congressman and Everybody,
It has been a tough day for us here in the 3rd leg of Israel when both Jeson and Marc loss their matches in 3 sets. Jeson lost 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 to a player from Slovakia while Marc lost 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to a player from Denmark.
Early this morning after our warm-up I had a talk with Jeson regarding his right knee that was swollen due to an inflammation the other day before his quarterfinal match against Fuscovic and I told him if he cannot play then we will have to withdraw. But he is stubborn at times and it is his hormones talking not his brain. He wants to fight and play even if he is not 100 percent. He told me coach I want to play and my right knee feels fine. So we consulted the physiotherapist and the tournament doctor and they both said it is fine and he must ice it again after his match.
In today’s match against the player from Slovakia Jeson knew that this was going to be a battle with long rallies because these players from Slovakia are all tough and about the same level. But Jeson was hesitant in giving his best because he is trying to protect his right knee while running for the shots. I believe this reaction is more psychological than physical. When a player gets hurt the tendency is to protect that part of the body that was injured, which Jeson was doing.
There where times that he was just not moving at all and was trying to finish the points much quicker to lessen the long rallies and movements on the court, which will never work against these bigger and taller rivals. To win he must engage them in tough rallies and keep building the pressure or else these players just starts swinging freely and aggressively which will put you on the defensive.
Marc on the other hand played another tough opponent in the second round after beating a player from Israel 6-1, 6-0 in the 1st round for his first singles win. It was a very good match for Marc against the Danish player and it lasted 3 hours with every point going the distance.
What Marc needs to improve next is his accuracy on his shots especially on the big points. At times his balls are just landing in the middle of the court which his opponents takes advantage off. But over all Marc’s improvement is still very positive and I have never seen him fight and play like this last year. He is very positive about his tennis and he feels that his continued improvement in his performance will also make him win big in the coming tournaments that are lined up for him this year.
I am very proud of our Team’s performance and we are not coming home empty handed once again. Jeson and Marc both earned ATP points in doubles by reaching the semifinals in the 1st leg beating the no. 2 seeds from France and Luxembourg. While Jeson made it to the quarterfinals of singles in the second leg after going through the Qualifying and winning 3 matches. In the round of 16 Jeson also had his biggest win so far in the Pro Tour when he beat the no. 3 seed and top 300 ATP player in the world Van Der Duim from the Netherlands who has won Men’s Futures in Italy and other parts of Europe.
Jeson also had a good win in the 1st leg by defeating Jankovits of France in the 1st round who was the finalist in the Thailand Men’s Futures and was also a quarterfinalist in the second leg here in Israel defeating the no. 8 seed Baluda from Russia 6-1, 6-2. Over all Jeson earned another 3 ATP points that will boost his rankings to the top 800 plus in the world from his current ranking of 941.
It has been a great start of the year for us and we are moving positively towards the right direction in achieving our goals for this year which is to break the top 500 in the world rankings by year end.
Tomorrow we will try to sign in for the doubles and we are hoping to land a slot in the main draw. But the cut off is high and Marc’s ATP ranking in doubles has not yet been credited. Normally it takes about 2 or 3 weeks for the points to be posted in the ATP website. But anyway we will still try. After Israel we go back home to prepare for the Davis Cup starting Feb.10 to 12 in Iriga City Bicol.
Our next Pro tournaments will be the 3 legs in India starting Feb. 20 to keep building our points and hopefully one day have a high enough ATP world ranking to compete in the Grand Slams.
Until Next time God bless to all.
Yours truly, Coach Manny Tecson
