Hi Coaches,

Is Dolgopolov's service style teachable, or is it something that can only come from the player?

If it is teachable, would you teach it to your students?  Why and why not?

I'm very interested to know what you think, thanks!

Here's a video of his serve:

Parang pareho din naman ang service motion niya sa ibang pro. yung sa kanya lang is mabilis yung execution na parang hinahabol niya yung bola or on the rise kung tawagin ng iba. pero kung titingnan mong mabuti nanduon pa rin yung pag tigil ng bola sa hitting zone niya dun niya pinapalo.

Yes Sir, I think it's teachable.

The biggest difference is in the toss. The lower your toss is, the quicker your racket needs to get to the contact point. And that what he is doing.

Yes, it's a little bit harder to execute because your timing needs to be great.

Here's a comparison with Agassi.
Halos same lang talaga, ang pinagkaiba lang is low toss which results to quick execution.
Naisip ko tuloy, panu kung mag-toss sya ng kasing taas ng ky Gonzo..Sigurado d nya magaga quickmotion nya. Grin Grin Grin

Dolgopolov's serve (the trophy pose) can be taught to the students.  The way he tosses the ball, the bending of his back and knees, the turn of his body and pronation of the racquet.

It is his quirk that he likes to do it in a fast motion which catches his opponents by surprise.

Hi hifromhenry

Yes Dolgopolov's service style is teachable.

Unlike many of the players that we see in the Pro or even in the club level who takes more time before their rackets make contact with the ball, Dolgopolov's serve motion is much quicker because he uses it as a TACTIC to surprise his opponents by not giving them the typical split of that time to figure out his plan of serve.

I hope that my answer to your question helped you somehow.

So, if the quick motion is something that can be taught, shouldn't there be more coaches teaching it?  It seems to give Dolgopolov an advantage, why not let others have it too?

Thanks for the inputs!

As far as quick servers go, Roscoe Tanner and Kevin Curren also comes to mind.

I think that unless the player has a solid foundation on the serve, a quick serve like Dolgopolov's would be tough to teach. This requires excellent timing and eye-hand coordination, qualities that lesser-skilled players may not yet possess.

I don't think na ganun kalaki ang advantage kung meron man, nang serve ni Dolpogolov.

Kasi syempre opponents know na ganun sya mag-serve so wala na ring surprise factor kahit pa quick yung motion nya.
