Sana upload sa You Tube ang ilang video ng recently concluded Toro tournament.  Mas maganda makita ang video than pixs.

Thanks.

Nagkaroon po ng technical difficulties that limited us to pictures only.  Hopefully next year meron na.  Smiley

“I think sportsmanship is knowing that it is a game, that we are only as a good as our opponents, and whether you win or lose, to always give 100 percent. – Sue Wicks”

We have adopted the theme “Attitude is Everything” because we wanted everyone to adapt a spirit of positive attitude, the attitude of a true sportsperson.  Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some players in this year’s championship has displayed attitude that is neither appreciated nor tolerated by the Organizers of the tournament.  Personal ethics and proper sportsman conduct dictates that you do not tell an opponent and everyone watching that you’re going to throw away the match regardless of the reason.  Moreover, adding insult to injury, asking rhetorically in a condescending tone why you were paired up with a beginner.  Your opponent may be a beginner but she will be more of a sportsperson than you’ll ever be regardless of talent. We bear you no ill-will. Your arrogance and rude manners are simply not welcomed at the Toro Hills Tennis Club. Thank you.

PS:  Though it pains me to admit that what you said to me was true – “Pera lang naman ang concern mo di ba?, it is just PARTLY TRUE. Let me clarify the reality of organizing a tournament to you. I have been shouldering the losses of this tournament for the past two years.  It is unfortunate that as an organizer I have to consider budgeting of the event but it is part of my work.  When the festivities are over and everyone else goes on with their usual routine, I still have to pay the club, the staff and the credit card bills. I have a decent job and the money that we make or loose in this event is too insignificant to make an issue out of.

Moreover, adding insult to injury, asking rhetorically in a condescending tone why you were paired up with a beginner.  Your opponent may be a beginner but she will be more of a sportsperson than you’ll ever be regardless of talent.

It's a shame that there are still those who look upon themselves as "too good to play with or against beginners", forgetting that they were once beginners. Kahit na sa mga Pinoy groups dito, I see these types of players. Tawag ko sa maga players na ganito: mga "legends", as in "legends in their own minds". Cheesy

If you think about it, being paired with a beginner should be a compliment to you. That means you're so good that you have to be paired with a beginner in order to even out the competition. Grin  It is also a good opportunity for you to help the beginner learn the finer points of the sport and be a good example of a player.

I understand it's a tournament, but we're not playing the professional tour here. It's supposed to be a social event, a friendly competition if you will, a chance to meet new friends and hang out with old friends.

If you happen to be a player with this kind of attitude, I feel sorry for you because you have some serious psych issues that needs to be addressed. I feel sorry for those who are close to you, as well.  They are the ones who have to live with this attitude of yours.

DocRafa,

62 years old na ako. Kaya I put more spin sa serve, so I can, at least, do my 1st volley malapit sa service line.

Per yung club namin ay nasa City of Whittier. Malayu sa Narrows.

Wow! Ala Sampras po pala style of play ninyo. We all aspire to be as fit and as good as you in the future. Thanks din po sa mga questions. Wala din po kaming age-bracketing sa tourney pero I know of other tournaments na nk-separate bracket for example yung mga seniors.  Smiley

Thanks to the organizers.  I enjoyed the tournament kahit hanggang first round lang ako. ANG GAGALING KASI NINYO! Smiley

I have a suggestion lang on the format for next time, kung feasible.  Please consider a short "3 setter" format. For example...

2 sets of 1 to 5, sudden death (no deuces)
3rd set can be tiebreaker of up to 7

Para naman may chance pa maka regroup ang isang player for a 2nd set. I don't know if anyone agrees with this para kasing ang hirap ng typical format of PTO tournaments na 1 setter lang, mabilis ang mga pangyayari. Smiley

Suggestion lang naman.  Thanks again guys!  It was fun.  Sana meron ulit next year!
