Competition will begin Monday for the Junior Davis Cup and next week for the Junior Fed Cup:
JDC Team is composed of: Mendoza, Lagman and Joseph and is in Group B together with Australia (2nd seed, headed by Kyrgios who played here in Mitsubishi), Hong Kong (5th seed) and Indonesia.
JFC Team is composed of: Capadocia, Tanpoco and Ho.
Competition is tough and a quarterfinal (Top8) showing will already be a very big achievement.

We are currently tied with Hong Kong 1-1 match a piece.
Lagman lost to Wong 1-6;4-6 Mendoza beat Yeung 4-6;4-6
Doubles is currently being played. Tie with Hong Kong is important, a win would put us in a very good position to finish in the Top 8 and avoid pre-qualifying next year.

Pinoys notches first win against Indonesia:
Lagman beat Hendrawan 6-4;7-5 Mendoza beat Widianto 6-2;6-1 Lagman/Joseph beat hendrawan/Ramdrani 4-6;3-6.
Good win... at least assured na tayo ng slot next year!
Sir SLP... team competition kasi kaya medyo dehado isa lang kasi mahusay natin. On the bright side bata pa players natin... 2 of the 3 team members are still eligible to compete next year. Yung nakatalo kay Mendoza si Kyrgios malaki, magaling at malakas talaga yon (muntik ng talunin si Patrombon sa Mitsubishi last month) yun din sa tingin ko sisikat sa Australia a few years from now.

Lose to Syria is harder to swallow. Overall we placed 12th out of 16 countries. Hong Kong is actually seeded 5th and finished 3rd out of 16 countries. Australia won and Japan is runner up, followed by Hong Kong and Thailand in 4th place.
On a brighter note, Jurence beat Hong Kong's No. 1 player and we actually finished better this year than last year unfortunately the other countries improved by leap and bounds.

those sent to India are among the top 16under players by philta. jurence is the best among the crop. betto orendain 15yo, begged off. outside the top 4 players are parpan, canizares, cano, villasenor(14) and olivares(14) can be as good w/ the rest of the guys. also to mention, alberto lim jr (13) has shown improvements and winning tourneys here.

If Lagman played Ming, we could have won. He is much much better than Joseph. Joseph has not won a single group 1 or 2 tournament. I dont understand why Lagman did not play singles.

To give Joseph exposure, a taste of junior davis cup singles action because in all probability he will play again with Mendoza next year.... besides its is almost no bearing anyway and doubles looks winnable in case of a 1-1 scenario medyo minalas lang.

Villasenor, Olivarez, and Lim are still too young as they are only 14,13 and 12 respectively yet they are good players. What we really need is to select representatives who are worthy not necessarily the top 3. Joseph is ranked 1 but there are other deserving ones. Lagman is a good pick although he is not even ranked. Time for the tennis honchos to do something about the plight of the sports. Just my two cents.

Philippines ended in a high note beating Uzbekistan 2-1 to end up in 11th place.
Full results:

Australia, Japan, Thailand and Taipei advanced to the World Group. 11th place is already a good showing considering the tough oposition, we even finished better than China who ended up in 14th place.
Hostilities, in the boys 14 under team will start tomorrow, unfortunately we have no representative since we failed to win the pre-qualifying tournament.

No mater what academy you put up, no mater how good it is, you cannot get kids to play tennis seriously unless it can be a profession just like basketball. So what if you are rp no. 1, you cannot earn as much as a PBA player. Tennis should first show that there is money in tennis like basketball to get kids to play professionally.
Big difference in playing professionally and recreationally.

As to the girls 14 U weak performance and comparison tennis with professional basketballas an explanation: is there a professional basket ball league in PH for women? If not, that could then not be the reason for lack of talent among tennis girls.
And women basket pro in the Us is also not realistic as most girls here are too short, and the basket culture for girls not very strong.
For boys, ok, easier to be top 50 or so in PBA and earn a lot. (Still not being top 1000 or 2000 in the world?)Probably even a football player level 5000 in the world can have good income...
Girls can aspire to a tennis career like top 100 (or more) on the main WTA tour, and earn fine....
Do they train enough? Minimum probably is 2-3 hours per day....in my estimate Do they have good trainers?....Talent + Hardwork + Good trainers, is the recepie.

If not, that could then not be the reason for lack of talent among tennis girls. Did I say there was professional league for ladies? And do we have good ladies basketball? That is because both sports cannot earn you a decent living. And women basket pro in the Us is also not realistic as most girls here are too short, and the basket culture for girls not very strong.
For boys, ok, easier to be top 50 or so in PBA and earn a lot. (Still not being top 1000 or 2000 in the world?)Probably even a football player level 5000 in the world can have good income...How can you dream to be top 5000th in the world if you dont practice? Who will finance your training? Can you earn more than what you spend?Girls can aspire to a tennis career like top 100 (or more) on the main WTA tour, and earn fine....

Why would you train? can playing/training feed you? How can you get talent, boy or girl if you cannot attract them to play for a living. I am not talking about boys or girls, tennis or other sports, I am talking about the prospect of being a professional in sports in the Philippines. If you have a child, will you ask her to study or play? You cannot be extremely good at two things. Naturally you will choose study, knowing you cannot have a decent future as a sports professional in the PH. Unlike mens basketball. If you dont train professionally, you can never be as good. Thats why there is a big difference between professionals and amateurs. To be good at something, you have to do it professionaly. To do it professionally, it has to be worth your while. A concrete example is Zandro "Jun" Limpot. He started with tennis. He was good at it and his uncle noticed his athletic skills and convinced him to shift to basketball because there is no future in tennis. The rest is history. Having a good program is already the second phase, first phase is how to get kids into the program.

Professional tennis in the Philippines is not present. But tennis is a global sport. To earn well you must be top 100 in the world.
At least som girls in every country should try that dream out. That is what Sharapova and her parents, or Villiams sisters and their parents did....coming from not rich background.
Second, you can train tennis and study the same time. Many international researh found that sporting boys and girls in average, actually do better in school than their non sporting boys and girls.
And Philippines have for ex world class teenage athletes in taekwondo...a sport not with any professional tournaments.
Third, besides tournaemnt prize money and sponsorship deals, you can have further monetary advantage with your top class tennis skills just below professional level: international trainer career, or scholarship to US university and so forth. Both should be interesting for Filipinos.

Professional tennis in the Philippines is not present. But tennis is a global sport. To earn well you must be top 100 in the world.First you have to be no 1 locally, but the local professionals are not very competitive because prize money is not enough, they earn more from teaching than tornaments
At least som girls in every country should try that dream out. That is what Sharapova and her parents, or Villiams sisters and their parents did....coming from not rich background. Before dreaming international, locals should first be convinced that being professional, locally, you can earn a decent living
Second, you can train tennis and study the same time. Many international researh found that sporting boys and girls in average, actually do better in school than their non sporting boys and girls. Better in school not in tennis, I will be surprised if players in school can be better than full time professionals in tennis
And Philippines have for ex world class teenage athletes in taekwondo...a sport not with any professional tournaments.Because they are all amateurs, is there professional TKD?
Third, besides tournaemnt prize money and sponsorship deals, you can have further monetary advantage with your top class tennis skills just below professional level: international trainer career, or scholarship to US university and so forth. Both should be interesting for Filipinos.notice international trainer, not local. US scholarship is not a tennis career
