It's okay if you can make it work. The only thing is, like alnielle says, you will have a shorter reach, in which case, you have to be extra quick and have good anticipation. It might also be problematic at the net. On the plus side, you get outstanding racket control on your groundstrokes ala Santoro. Volleys, however, are another story.

Juniors dito, so common ang ang 2 handed Forehand and Backhand, we call it here "All Backhand" player, mostly girls, I have two players in 14 and 12 are "Backhanders", so far so good their doin' great, but the 12 which has rank in the national, pina isang kamay ko ang Forehand since last summer, she's doin' great na, she hit a lot of shots like proper volleys and some "Auxilliary" shots likes of lobs, drop shots, half volleys with confidence. About Aiko Nakamura , her Coach is Eiji Takeuchi, the capt. of the Davis Cup of Japan, which I used to work in his place for 10 yrs, He talks and gave me more ideas about handling a "Backhanders", marami akong natutunan rin sa kanya About Akiko Morigami, she's also a BACKHANDERS, his former coach was my good friend the late John Hanke, from saddlebrook (Harry Hopman's), ang ka rival ni Morigami is my player during their junior days also a BACKHANDERS, she's also got a lot of National Titles from junior till pro. BACKHANDERS are so common here

I think using 2 hands, forehand or backhand, gives you consistent power, only problem is reach. We have toto joven from davao who does this. He is now in manila. I heard he is doing well in the mens tour. Two handed strokes are becoming common because more children are starting at an earlier age. They cant handle the racket weight with one hand. Hitting two handed forehand is like hitting right handed in baseball. Its easier to get consistent because the swing is shortened.

oo nga, si toto joven uses 2-handed forehand. nakita namin siya maglaro sa citadella when oldskul invited them to play sa EB ng PTO last december. ung 2-handed na yun is very consistent sa baseline.

why do people use 2 handed forehands or backhands?
i am wondering because i use one handed forehand and two handed backhand.
When i first got to hold a tennis racket its just felt natural for me to use one hand in my forehand and both hands in my backhand. When I use one hand in my backhand it feels so awkward. When I was in our tennis class, i saw some students use one hand in their backhand.
when I first taught my cousin, (he was 9 years old then) i taught him one handed forehand. and after a break I went back to the court, i saw him walling using two hands in forehand and backhand and i can see he has the strokes. he is actually playing better using both hands. that was our first meeting. I was amazed. he can do what i cant do. I told him to continue using two hands in his forehand and backhand.
My brother is using one handed forehand and two handed backhand. sometimes i saw him using one hand in his backhand. I did not correct him. I am not his trainer so i think trainers are more competent to teach and in the best position to correct him if he was wrong.
So it brought me to the conclusion that, its the body dynamics that determines whether you use two handed backhand or two handed forehand or vice versa.
Does anybody knows someone who is very versatile that has the option to use one or two hands in forehand and backhands yet the strokes are equally powerful and consistent.
Has anybody seen Roger Federer using both hands in his backhand?
Any thoughts guys?
Thanks.

i got an email from tennis australia and while I was browsing their site i found this article. Are two hands better than one? Hi Killer, Is it better to teach a junior player a one-handed backhand or a two-handed backhand when they are starting? A lot of players in the top 100 play backhands with two hands, but the two No.1 players in the world, Roger Federer and Justine Henin, play backhands with one hand. In what direction is the game going in regards to this? Thanks, Ash Killer's response: Ash, there is no right or wrong answer to this question and both shots can be very effective. Personally, I feel the two-handed backhand is the best way to go for younger players. It gives them greater control over the racquet head and is generally easier. The greatest advantage for players playing a two-handed backhand is on the return of serve. It is possible to employ a forehand grip with the dominant hand as well as a backhand grip with the other hand; this makes it easier to have the correct grip on returns. Another advantage is being able to move into the court and maintain control of the racquet head on returns that are bouncing up above your head. guys, i'm currently teaching my 9 year old. he can a one handed on the forehand side. open stance!! but on the backhand side double fisted. he still has trouble with control so i let him do with what he's comfortable doing. pag dating sa mga bata, hayaan mo sila. they will grow out of it.

Ok din ang double handed forehand. Although it may limit your reach , you can get extra control and some pop from it. Any way me and my brother use this technique and so far so good. You just have to be a lot quicker and anticipate better with this kind of stroke.
