Calling all PTO Members who:
1. wants to promote camaraderie through tennis single matches,
2. wants to assess and improve level of play,
3. wants to play 4 single matches within 6-week time frame in any agreed venue.

then, this league would benefit all of us if we have a common goal. Also, please bear in mind that this will not replace scheduled PTO tournaments.

The Rules:
1. Philippine Tennis Challenger Circuit (trial) (Oct. 5 - Nov. 14, 2010)

2. All PTO Members (even beginners) who signed-up will be grouped in five (5) players per division according to NTRP ratings, rankings and lottery.

3. Groupings will be posted by Oct. 4, 2010

4. Player 1 is to Supply New Balls and Call players 2 & 3 to arrange a match-up, location and time.
Player 2 is to Supply New Balls and Call players 3 & 4.
Player 3 is to Supply New Balls and Call players 4 & 5.
Player 4 is to Supply New Balls and Call players 1 & 5.
Player 5 is to Supply New Balls and Call players 1 & 2.

5. One match will consist of an 8 game pro-set. At 7-7 the players will play a 10-point super tie-breaker.

6. Each player is responsible to post his or her scores on the sheets provided.

7. At the end of each period, total games will be added and the following positions will move divisions accordingly:
1st and 2nd highest scores will move up one division
4th and 5th lowest scores will move down one division
3rd score will stay in the same division

8. In the event of a tie for total points, the winner of the players’ head-to-head match will be placed in the higher position.

9. If the caller has made every effort to arrange a match before the last 7 days of the current session, then the responsibility shifts to the other player. Players must call the Tournament Director to inform of this change.

10. Players that are unavailable to play for 10 days or more in any session are responsible for arranging all of their matches.

11. All matches must be played within the time frame provided. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

12. Players not playing at least two matches shall be removed from the next league and may enter again in the usual way.

13. New persons wishing to enter the next league will be assessed by a selected committee and will be added to a division below the one of their standard.

14. A fifteen-minute default rule will be in effect.

15. If a player is to be off the area or country more than 7 days, please inform the other players in your group by writing dates next to your name.

16. Players waiting till the last week of the League to arrange matches risk having the opponent to take a walk-over due to lack of notice.

17. Everyone in the League will also be involved in a total point race which will be totaled quarterly; points will be awarded by games won.

18. I apologize to anyone that feels they have been put in the wrong division. It will honestly all work it self out in a couple of sessions.

17. If a match is not played, a (8-0) score will be awarded to the player NOT responsible for calling. However, the person who is awarded the “walk-over” please post the score on the league sheet.

18.The person who is responsible for calling and buying the balls will have the choice of playing service he or she wishes.


Notes:
1. No fees to be collected,therefore, no trophys nor awards will be given.
2. Maximum of 4 matches will be played within the league period.
3. Each player will supply a maximum of 2 cans of new tennis balls for use.
4. Pertinent fees (guest', court, lights and ballboys) shall be shared among players.

I have considered all PTO members who are far away from Metro Manila specially you DW. Since you'll have to play 4 matches in 6-week time frame you can easily schedule with your group on a weekend. you could advice your group that you'll be here in manila by this time, you could play 4 singles in 1 weekend (or more). the time is very flexible.

Since it's performance-based, we can have a dynamic NTRP where players move up or down the NTRP scale without the need for periodic official NTRP verification.  In this case, our official NTRP raters will make an assessment only once, initially for players without a previous NTRP rating. This initial NTRP will be the basis for a Tencap rating, whereby each player will be responsible for entering their match scores in the Tencap system so that their rating, both Tencap and the NTRP equivalent, will be current. The Tencap can help us identify weak or strong players within a particular NTRP where, for example, strong 3.5s can have a good match with weak 4.0s.

I think this would save the raters and the players the hassle of the NTRP tango in the long run. We don't need to maintain a list like we do now. We can simply look up the Tencap online. We can also avoid the bruised egos for being rated at an NTRP we don't like. You can't dispute match results.

I agree with racketwiz.  Kaya lang depende ito sa mga players.  Kailangan talaga accurate ang reporting ng matches.  As usual, walang system na perfect.  Kung merong gustong paikutin ang systema, I'm sure merong makakaisip ng butas.

That's possible. We also do that on ladder matches. However, for now i'm trying to avoid extra cost to the loser. The worst case is if you lose all your matches within your group- you'll have to supply 4 new cans. Probably, we'll consider that on the next league wherein it's some sort of a prize for winning matches.

I adopted this league from the Cayman Islands Tennis Club which i played 2 leagues until Hurricane wrought havoc to the Island. I started at group 5 and moved up to group 3 after. I find it a success there because we get to play with our same level and still progress if we win more game points.

At the onset, we'll be grouped according our present NTRP, ranked or by lottery. After the prescribed time frame, all game points will be totaled. On the next league (if it's a success) Top 2 players moves up, bottom 2 players moves down, and 3rd player stays on that group. Players who just played 2 matches (instead of 4) will be removed and new players who wants join will be placed below their standards.

Regarding venues, each player has the responsibility to call 2 players within your group and make arrangements to get a match. If you want to have a court advantage, you could set-up your match at your club or you could meet halfway. Pagusapan niyo ung date and time at kung saan. Pwede rin na magkaroon un grupo ng quorum. In a given time you could play 2 matches or more in one day kung magkakasama kayo sa 1 venue. depende sa usapan.

Ok din ung by chapters, but what i see is same-same pa rin ung makakalaro mo. With this league, you get a chance to know and play other PTO members (with same caliber) in different venues.

I forgot to mention, we can have the match done without a required Umpire. Ballboys can call the shots. Or, players themselves can do that as what ITF juniors do.

let's record all matches sa league na ito sa ladder at sa tencap. tingnan natin ang calculation ng ntrp ng dalawang site na ito kung ano ang difference.

I believe puwede ang Level-Up provided sasalihan din yung Level kung saan ka talaga kabilang para maassess ng maayos yung NTRP.

Sa initial grouping, i think wala dapat level-up. Stick to the ntrp where you are currently rated. This way, nasa iisang group ang magkaka-level initially.

I agree, but in any case, there's a chance that you'll be grouped to a higher or lower level if we have to fill up 5.

Let's say 18 players signed-up as NTRP 4.0. Most likely, we have 3 groups and 3 remainders. 2 players from NTRP 3.5 will fill the void. same case to other levels.
