As organizers of this tournament you can implement whatever rules or guidelines you want. If it's an Invitational Tournament then assigning reserve slots for any group or individual you want is well within your rights.

But in the spirit of fairness if you'd be using results from Tournaments you organize as basis for PTO Ladder Ranking and seeding for future tournaments as you have stated then registration should be open. To quote you:

The ladder will be used to determine the seeding of the next tournaments we'll be organizing.The ladder will only count the results of singles tournament with 3.5 NTRP rating and below.Challenges not included.    

How can an individual rack up points when he will be limited in the number of tournaments he can join? A player who has the time and is very eager to join but is forced to be in the waiting list definitely can affect his rank. More so that challenges are not included.

I'd like to reiterate that no individual can force you as tournament organizer to do things differently. One can only recommend and it's up to you to weigh the validity of such suggestions and act on it as you see fit.

As for your 2nd. question, I guess we're just waiting for the papers to come out before we can announce official guidelines. (LVL, Francis, Addie et. al can correct me on this if I missed something)

I am very happy and very thankful for DW to point out that as an organizer, it is with in our right to implement whatever rules or guidelines we want. To quote you:

But let me just explain why I chose to assign number slots for particular group(s).

There are two reasons why I assigned number of slots:
1) Limited resources-slots, money and time.
I assigned slots to particular groups because of a suggestion of a friend (a pto member 4.0). I am actually against it but he pointed out that assigning slots for group(s) is better to avoid monopoly. And I think logical naman ang suggestion nya and I will take personal responsibility in following his suggestion.

Since the number of slots are very limited, we only thought of a 16-player field but
sa amin palang more or less 16 na kami so i don't see the point of organizing an event para sa amin lang so I thought of expanding the draw to 24 at the same time control the number of slots for particular groups, including shotmakers. Example, for toro yong mga players ng toro na NTRP 3.5 and below is marami and they are very active, kung hindi naglagay ng 6 slots for them im sure mapupuno kaagad ang listahan. ayoko ko po maging TORO vs shotmakers ang tournament, so I gave 7 slots to 5n6 and 3 slots to Perps, so kahit papaano, hindi mamonopolize ng isang group ang list. Total 8 slots for shotmakers, 7 slots for 5n6, 6 slots for toro, 3 slots for Perps. Please take note that Jesus is also a 5n6 member and Mr Jun Estrella is our sponsor in Magallanes.

Adding 8 more players to increase from 16 to 24 means additional matches and court hours. To shorten it I decided to identify the top 8 to be seeded and will automatically qualify to reach the second round, and use previous singles tournaments NTRP 3.5 and below (that includes Toro Tournament last January, Class B tournament in Perps 2 and in Montalban, Stone Crest, did I missed anything?Let me know) to determine the seeds from January to June 2010. The simplest way to do it is to list down who among the players participated in previous tournaments, put their name in a box and pick the top 8. Those who will not be picked I'm sorry but they have to fight for their life to reach the second round.

Actually I'm expecting this kind reaction that's why sa umpisa I'm totally against it (assigning slots) pero in the end this is the best that we can do out of our limited resources. We cannot please everybody. Whether we assigned slots or not meron pa rin po magrereklamo.

2) Lack of confidence on my part.

This is the biggest tournament we'll be organizing and I'm not confident enough that we will be filling the 24-player field that we are targeting.  I even posted my name, Ana, 1Mac and RSP in the reserve list so that just in case we could not complete the field we can enter right away. 

I am very thankful that a lot of players expressed their interest in participating the tournament. I feel very positive about it.

As I said before we are scheduling a bigger tournament to accommodate everybody and I even posted it before pa.

a) Please notice the change from Tennis Ladder Max 3.5 (Philippine Tennis Online max 3.5) to Generic Tennis Ladder Max 3.5, I have the assumption that this tournament is not recognized by PTO so I change it to Generic. b) Why build a new ladder instead of the old one?

1) The current ladder in Global Tennis Network includes NTRP 2.0 to 5. I don't see any reason why we should use it for a tournament with NTRP 3.5 and below.
2) The ladder will expire on July 31, 2010, we won't be able to use for the tournament slated in August.

I've been thinking of using one ladder for tournaments to determine the seeding for all playing levels but I don't think it would be fair for everybody. It is better to use a tennis ladder with max 3.5 for tournaments with max 3.5 NTRP rating rather than with 5.0. I don't see the logic. A tournament with max 3.5 do not have players with NTRP 4. to 5. 

c. In my opinion challenges will not work because the system can be abused. I would rather choose a top seed who won many tournaments than someone who won many challenges because more often than not those players choose weaker players to beat, for them to become the top seed.

My vision is to incorporate previous tournament results in the ladder unfortunately, as I observe tournament organizers from January to June do not post the complete results in PTO. It is only Francis whom I knew who posted the complete results for Max 4.0 Doubles in Facebook. So there is no way I can record the scores of previous tournaments to be included in the ladder so I started it on July 1 to December 31,2010. All tournament results from July1 to Dec31 with 3.5 NTRP and below can be collected to come up with more comprehensive ranking.   

d. Please also take note, there was a change from "The ladder will only count the results of singles tournament recognized by PTO with 3.5 NTRP rating and below." to "The ladder will only count the results of singles tournament with 3.5 NTRP rating and below.Challenges not included."

Just as I thought. Sharing my recommendations regarding a particular activity would always warrant a negative reaction.

I applaud your ideas and vision in organizing tournaments. I am not against creation of any ladders. I have nothing to gain in doing so. I don't even have a hand in the past ladders created, I just support it. So when you say "I don't like your idea" is absurd.

What I am batting for is equal opportunity for every member of this site to compete and join tournaments or any PTO activity whether they belong to a certain group or not. Now if you think in doing so i am wrong, then I'd rather be wrong in your eyes.

Basing on your explanation it is indeed an Invitational Tournament so the reserve slots is justified whether you call it as such or not. Tournament Format and Tournament Name are the discretion of the organizer so you won't expect me to go against you on this.

I think Bob made an effort to include everyone kaya he reserve slots to each groups. That's the main reason and not to exclude anyone.  Maliit lang talga yung draw so not everyone can be accomodated.  Keep in mind na mainly si Bob lang ang nago organize ng tournament na eto... he is working and does not have all financial means to sponsor this huge endeavor.  It's not his responsibility to organize tournaments... he volunteered for this.  Let's be nice and supportive to his efforts

Praises sa mga organizers ng mga tournaments. As the administrator of a leading volleyball forum , its hard for us to make tournaments like what we have here in PTO. With more than 6k members ng forum ko, maswerte na yung twice a year kami makabuo ng tournament.

Kaya saludo ako kina Sir Francis, JC and Bob na matiyaga sa pag-oorganize. With PTO tournaments, mas lalo akong naaadik sa tennis dahil gusto kong makakuha ng trophy from PTO. Hehehe.
