This is Elmer A. Dolera of The Goodwill Tennis Tours.  I am presently in negotiations to return my tennis program to the Philippines in April or May of this year.  I have already been assured by my Philippine contact that we have three sites - Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Casino Espanol de Cebu in Cebu City and a site in Cagayan de Oro.  I am trying to get an understanding of how many of you want to be certified to the higher levels of USPTA certification - P3 up to P1.  Here are the following fees:

If we do the USPTA certification in April, the dues will be $ 79.70 ( May, a little less).  That amount is for April until the end of the year.  After, yearly dues will be around $ 108.00.  Application fee to be certified is $ 100.00.

I need to know who wants to be USPTA certified and to give me that information by the end of January 2008.  Fees must be paid by mid-February 2008.  We can  only do ten candidates at each of the aforementioned sites.  Candidates must receive a passing score in order to be USPTA certified.

To view pictures of my last five tennis programs in the Philippines, please go to the web addresses http://www1.snapfish.com/share/p=449251180112424121/l=268808799/g=15905395/cobrandOid=1000131/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB , http://www1.snapfish.com/share/p=34741188891545954/l=303450868/g=15905395/cobrandOid=1000131/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB and http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwhs097.html .  I enthusiastically look forward hearing from you and ready to answer all your questions..

Hi Elmer!  Thanks for keeping us updated on your schedule of activites.  We look forward to see you here in Manila.  Sino ba sa PTO ang willing?  Or does anyone at PTO know of a qualified trainer/s na pwede na mapa-certify?  Baka We might be able to solicit some funding for this if ever (no committments pero bakit di natin subukan?).  In return, the coaches who were sponsored can provide PTO members with discounted tennis lessons.

Actually, tipid na 'to because di na kailangang magbayad ng airfare/room and board, visas, etc. para magpunta ng U.S.

Hi Elmer,
I just curious on how USPTA Certification are going-on on European(Germany, UK,France, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, Austria and Spain) and South American( Brazil, Chile, Argentina...) regions.
Do coaches and trainers on these areas really take USPTA exams?  Smiley Smiley

You may want to go to the USPTA website and ask that question but as far as I know, in order to be certified P3 up to P1 , you have to take an exam because you have to exhibit the basic knowledge to teach tennis.

This Elmer A. Dolera of The Goodwill Tennis Tours.  My program will be returning to the Philippines sometime between the end of April and the beginning of May 2008.  Although I do not have a final schedule as yet, I need to know who is serious about getting certified as a USPTA tennis professional, P3 up to P1.

The USPTA certification testing  will be done at three sites - The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Casino Espanol de Cebu in Cebu City and Cagayan de Oro.  If you want to be tested, I need to know which site you will be going to.

Space is limited to ten participants per site.  The USPTA Developmental Coaches we certified in 2007 have priority but if we are short of the ten at any site, those spaces will be open to tennis trainers in the general public.

You must pay your fees before we go to the Philippines.  Application fee is $ 100.00 and you can pay by using a credit card at the USPTA website or by mailing a check to the USPTA.  Annual USPTA dues are in the area of $ 107.00.  Since we are doing the testing in May, the annual dues are prorated and will be in the area of  $ 79.00.  Once payment has been received, you will receive the study material over the internet.

The USPTA certification will consist of two to three days on the tennis courts with USPTA Tester, Ted Sayrahder, to assess your skill level.  The second part will be a test that you can take on the internet.  The USPTA will analyze Ted Sayrahder's assessment of your skills and grade the test you will have taken via the internet.  Four weeks after we return to the United States, participants will get their results to see if they are certified P3, P2 or P1., provided that you pass your skill assessment and the internet test.

Please contact me to let me know if you want USPTA certification, what site you choose and once the spaces are filled at the three sites, I will inform you to pay for your fees and give you our firm schedule.  I enthusiastically look forward hearing from you.

Promoting friendship and goodwill using the world game of tennis,

If we register for the exams on-line, the fee we would be paying for would be $ 260 application fee for international members plus $177.08 pro-rated dues if you pay this month. That is the regular application fee and dues on-line.
Also, if we've already paid our development coach fee as you said we should, if we apply for the test, we will also pay for the P certified dues. This would mean we would have paid for both the development coach and P certified coach annual dues for the same year which would be redundant.
Hope you can clarify this matter or can set up a payment system wherein we can pay your quoted rates. Thanks.

We have made an agreement that the application fee for USPTA certiifcation is $ 100.00.  Annual dues P3 to P1 status is around $ 107.00 per year.  If we test in April the dues price is prorated to        $ 73.11 and if we test in May, the dues fee is $ 64.98 until the end of 2008.   When you contact the USPTA I would advise that you tell them that you are doing the certification with The Goodwill Tennis Tours, in the Philippines.

I am the organizer of The Goodwill Tennis Tours but not a member of the USPTA.  I advise you to contact the USPTA via their website to clarify any question you may have regarding USPTA certification.  I am confident that if you have already paid your USPTA Developmenat Coach dues and want to upgrade to P3 up to P1 status that you will not be paying for both but the difference in dues fees.

Do not hesistate to contact me if you have any other questions.

Regarding payment for USPTA certification, you can get the applications via the internet.  Go to the USPTA websites to do that .  In addition, you can pay for the application fee and dues also at the website.

You can also mail your payment of fees to:

OK. I guess the question now would be if the testing to take place here is definite.  It takes a while to be refunded through credit card. Thanks.

Once I have everything settled, the tennis professionals committed to going to the Philippines, the sites and accommodations are finalized, I will inform all so that they can make arrangements to get certified by the USPTA.  We will take up to ten at each site.  Here is the latest:

Rizal Memorial Sports Complex - 2 confirmed - Raymond Dakudao and Sam Flores
Casino Espanol de Cebu - none at this time.
Cagayan de Oro - 3 confirmed - Boddee Pacana, Raul Antonio Guerrero and Aike Mosqueda

You pay the USPTA directly at their website, where you can also get the application form.  You can also mail a check to the USPTA at the aforementioned address.  Please forward your name and e-mail address to me at edolera@hotmail.com.  If I do not receive your e-mail, I will not confirm you.

Once I have everything set, I will contact all participants of USPTA certification to pay.

The Goodwill Tennis Tours is providing a wonderful opportunity for the Philippines to get on-going world-class tennis instruction and USPTA certification.  It is up to you if you want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Thanks for the update Elmer! Pardon me for a silly question  Grin but you mentioned about tennis clinics for children and juniors, how about for ages 18 and above are the tennis clinics open for this age group?

Clinics will be for children 8 to 12 and advanced juniors - we can include elite players.  With the exception of the children, our tennis professionals should only be teaching to advanced players.   Local tennis trainers should be responsible for the beginners and intermediates.

Hi Elmer,

I am not a tennis coach but I play tennis for fun. I am also a parent and I'd love my kids to get into tennis as well. While I don't think I will qualify for a USPTA Certification I would like to attend a "Recreational Coach Workshop". Are you going to schedule one (Recreational Coach Workshop) this time?

Regards and more power!

Thanks to the United States Embassy in Manila, The Goodwill Tennis Tours will be returning to the Philippines in April 2008 to do United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Certification P3 up to P1.  Certification will be done by USPTA Tester Ted Sayrahder.

Here are the following sites we will be going to, the dates we will be there and the e-mail addresses of the contacts for each site.  They are:

 4-18, 4-19, 4-20 – Davao City tennis program – Carolina Angel - angelcr7@yahoo.com

4-24, 4-25, 4-26 – Cagayan de Oro tennis program - Raul Antonio Guerrero - raulantonio_guerrero@yahoo.com

4-30, 5-1, 5-2 – Manila tennis program – Rizal Memorial Sports Complex - Raul Antonio Guerrero - raulantonio_guerrero@yahoo.com

5-6, 5-7, 5-8 – Laoag tennis program - Willie Boy Agcaoili - wr_agcaoili@yahoo.com

 5-11, 5-12, 5-13 – Bacolod tennis program - Fernando "Boy" Arguelles Arguelles III - rmarguelles2003@yahoo.com

USPTA Certification will be done only at those sites where we can get at least four participants.  Due to the extensive nature of the program we can only accept ten participants per site maximum.  As of this message, only two sites qualify for the USPTA Certification – Manila at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and Cagayan de Oro because five in Manila and four for Cagayan de Oro have informed me of their intention to do USPTA Certification.

The OFFICAL number for each site taking USPTA Certification will be those who CONFIRM with me after they have paid their USPTA Certification Application Fee and have received the learning material online, not their e-mail to me indicating their intention to participate.   If we cannot get at least four for a site, we will not do USPTA Certification at that location only the Recreational Coaches Workshop (RCW) (http://www.usta.com/coaches/custom.sps?iType=12362&icustompageid=17306) and tennis clinics for children eight to twelve and advanced juniors to include advanced adults.  At the end of the RCW, we can certify those who CHOOSE to be certified as USPTA Developmental Coaches for around $ 60.00.  Annual dues are over $ 100.00.

Expect to spend two full days for USPTA Certification – the second and third day at each site that qualifies with a minimum of four participants and possibly a third day if we have between five and ten participants.  The first day we will be doing the recreational Coaches Workshop – 3 hours in the a.m. and 3 hours in the p.m.  The following are examples of the time used for the USPTA Certification:

Certification Review Course – 6 hours
On-Court Skills Test – 2 to three hours
Written Test -  1 ½ to 2 hours
Stroke Analysis – 1 hour
Private/Group Lesson Session – 1 hour

To pay for your USPTA Application fee for Certification, please go to the USPTA website at http://www.uspta.org/, to get an application.  Application can be done online and it is recommended that you use a credit card to pay for the application fee.  If you cannot do that, mail a check to USPTA Headquarters.  Address is at the website.

Application fee is $ 100.00. Full annual dues is around $ 106.25.  For those who get certified in April, annual dues will be around $ 79.70 until December 2008, less if we do your certification in May 2008.

Once we return to the United States in May 2008, the USPTA will look at USPTA Ted Sayrahders’ assessment of your skills and grade your written test.  About three weeks upon our return to the United States, you will get your USPTA certification P3, P2 or P1, provided you pass the certification testing.  It is recommended that you study at least three weeks for the USPTA Certification before we go to the site you are at.

Remember, many of you have emailed me regarding your intention to get USPTA Certification.  I will officially confirm your reservation after you have paid your application fee and have received your study material online.  E-mailing you intention to me that you will participate does not mean you have a reserved space.

Please refer all your USPTA Certification questions to the USPTA website.  You should receive answers to your questions within 24 hours.  Once your payment of the application fee has been confirmed, you should receive you leaning material online, the next business day.  Confirm with me that you have paid your application fee with a copy of the receipt that the USPTA will send you and I will reserve a space for you at the site of your choosing.  For those sites that we do not do USPTA Certification because there are less than four participants and you have been confirmed for that site, the USPTA will refund your money or we will schedule you for another site of your choosing that has space available if possible.

The goal of The Goodwill Tennis Tours is to increase the number of qualified tennis teachers who will go out to the Philippine grassroots to teach the modern game of tennis.  For those of you we USPTA certify in April/May 2008, you will be the first wave.  It is my intention if I can get help from the Philippines to continue my program on a yearly basis to provide tennis instructors an on-going program of tennis instruction.

The sites have confirmed and we are ready for the task at hand.  On behalf of my associate, USPTA Tester, P1, High Performance Coach Ted Sayrahder and USPTA Tennis Professionals Brian Cunniff and Mark Allen who will also be joining me, I want to thank you for the privilege to teach you, the modern game of tennis.  I enthusiastically look forward receiving your USPTA confirmations so I can reserve a spot for you at one of the aforementioned sites of your choosing.

Promoting friendship and goodwill using the world game of tennis,

No deadline but I advise all those who want to be USPTA Certified to have at least three weeks to study before you do the certification.  Once you pay you application fee of $ 100.00, you should receive confirmation within a matter days and receive your learning material over the internet the next day after your payment has been confirmed.  I do not know if the USPTA will ask for payment of your dues at the same time you pay your application fee or if they will bill your dues later.  Again, please refer all questions to the USPTA website.  They should give you answers within twenty four hours.  You know when we are going to you site by the schedule I have posted.  Make sure you have time to study.

According to Vicky Tristan, USPTA Membership and Testing Coordinator, $100 application fee and additional $95 due if you are a USPTA developmental coach. If you're not a developmental coach, we paid $100 for our annual dues, so maybe you would pay just a little under $195 since dues are prorated.  She also said to just pay Mr. Ted Sayrahder here in the Philippines the application fee and dues. She provided me an attachment for the study materials in her e-mail. Her email address is vicky@uspta.org

USPTA Certification Update as of 3-23-08

The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) has decided to change the payment procedure for Filipinos who want to be certified as USPTA Tennis Professionals during The Goodwill Tennis Tours in April/May of 2008

Participants can pay us in cash, at the tennis sites where they will be taking the certification.  Payment will be taken before the certification process.  Here again are the sites and the dates:

4-18, 4-19, 4-20 – Davao City tennis program

4-24 4-25, 4-26 – Cagayan de Oro tennis program

4-30, 5-1, 5-2 – Manila tennis program – Rizal Memorial Sports Complex

5-6, 5-7, 5-8 – Laoag tennis program

5-11, 5-12, 5-13 – Bacolod tennis program.  – Last tennis program.

USPTA Certification will be done days two and three and possibly a third day if there are five to ten participants.   Due to the intense nature of the certification process, we can only do ten per site maximum. Just to let those taking the certification exam in Manila know, if those intending to take the exams remains at four, I will take the exams in Cagayan de Oro. No margin for drop-out in number of participants and Manila is probably the last exam.

The Goodwill Tennis Tours Detailed Schedule

Here are the following sites we will be going to, the dates we will be there and the e-mail addresses of the contacts for each site.  They are:

 4-18, 4-19, 4-20 – Davao City tennis program – Carolina Angel - angelcr7@yahoo.com

4-24, 4-25, 4-26 – Cagayan de Oro tennis program - Raul Antonio Guerrero -
raulantonio_guerrero@yahoo.com

4-30, 5-1, 5-2 – Manila tennis program – Rizal Memorial Sports Complex - Raul Antonio Guerrero - raulantonio_guerrero@yahoo.com

5-6, 5-7, 5-8 – Laoag tennis program - Willie Boy Agcaoili - wr_agcaoili@yahoo.com

5-11, 5-12, 5-13 – Bacolod tennis program - Fernando "Boy" Arguelles Arguelles III - rmarguelles2003@yahoo.com

]The late afternoon or early evening the day before the program officially starts:

We will do a one hour tennis assembly for the kids and coaches to motivate them for the next three days of tennis instruction provided we have enough children participating.  Must have a minimum of forty children.  Tennis Assembly should be done in the late afternoon or early evening at the site we are doing the program.  We will require an excellent sound system to play music, a microphone and speakers so we can be heard clearly.

We will be unable to do this program in Laoag because our flight will arrive at 7 p.m and possibly Bacolod, because USPTA Tennis Professional Brian Cunniff, who is the lead tennis professional for the tennis assembly, may not be available because he has to return to the U.S. after four weeks.

Day 1 – Recreational Coaches Workshop (RCW) (http://www.usta.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=174607) – three hours in the morning and three hours in the late afternoon or early evening.  It is a program designed for individuals who are teaching and coaching players new to the game and/or at the earlier levels of skill development. .  We will require an excellent sound system to play music, a microphone and speakers so we can be heard clearly.

Past attendees include:

•   Parents seeking the basics in coaching and organizing team tennis
•   Park and Recreation instructors, high school, and seasonal coaches
•   Coaches teaching kids and adults who are new to the game
•   Current players seeking part-time teaching jobs

For those who choose to, we can certify those who want to be certified as United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Developmental Coaches for a fee of around $ 65.00 upon the conclusion of the RCW.

RCW first session will start at 8:30 a.m. sharp and end around 11:30 a.m. If there are no lights, the second three-hour session should start in the late afternoon.  Please inform the RCW participants at your site, what time the second three-hour session starts.

For those who participate in the Recreational Coaches Workshop at the eligible sites where we will be doing USPTA Certification, they will be eligible to sit in on the Certification Review Course (six hours) given to those participating in USPTA Certification.  If they want and if there is space, they can take the USPTA Certification after they pay their fees in cash.

For the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Tennis program, we will be combining the Recreational Coaches Workship to include children juniors ten to eighteen for at least the morning session.

We recommend those participating in the RCW, observe the USPTA Tennis Professionals teaching to children and juniors on Day 2 and Day 3.

Day 2 – United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Certification (for those sites that qualify with at least four participants) and tennis clinics for children and advanced players.

We require one court for the sole use of USPTA Tester Ted Sayrahder, to conduct the USPTA Certification.  Participants must be prepared to spend a full two days (three days if we have five to ten participants doing the program.  We can only do ten participants maximum per site.

We will require an excellent sound system to play music, a microphone and speakers so we can be heard clearly.

Some of the time will be spent on the following:

•   Certification Review Course – six hours
•   On Court Skills Test – two hours
•   Written Test – 1 ½ to two hours
•   Stroke Analysis – One hour
•   Private and Group Lesson – One hour

The fees for USPTA certification are as follows:

Application fee - $ 100.00
Annual dues – prorated for those USPTA Certified in April 2008 is $ 79.70
Annual dues – prorated for those USPTA Certified in May 2008 is $ 64.98
Annual dues are $ 106.00

We will accept payment in cash at those sites that qualify for USPTA Certification before the program starts.

We require at least two courts to do the tennis clinics for children and advanced players USPTA Tennis Professionals Brian Cunniff and Mark Allen will be teaching these sessions.  USPTA P1 Ted Sayrahder will also participate at those sites that do not qualify for USPTA Certification.

The morning session will be broken down into two segments:

Children seven to ten – 1 to 1 ½ hours.  Due to their short attention span this session may be only one hour.

Children and juniors eleven to eighteen – 1 to 1 ½ hours

High Performance afternoon session of 2 hours will be for advanced players – junior tournament players, advanced adults, etc. – accomplished players with high level of playing ability.  Players should be at least at the 4.0 NTPR Level.  See the attached copy of the NTPR rating system.

This is an intense program for advanced players and beginners participating in this session will be a detriment to this session.  If you have beginner adult players have your local tennis trainers instruct them.  Many years playing tennis does not constitute an advanced player.  It is their ability and skill level.

Day 3 – USPTA Certification and tennis clinics for children and advanced players.  Same format as Day 2.

If there are four participants, the USPTA Certification process should take two days.  If there are between five to ten participating in the USPTA Certification Program at your site, USPTA Tester, Ted Sayrahder, will forego one of his rest days to finish the certification process.

Miscellaneous information:

•Morning sessions will start by 8:30 a.m.  We will not go over information twice for the benefit of those who are late.

•In order to become certified as a USPTA Developmental Coach after the Recreational                   Coaches Workshop concludes, participants must attend the full six-hour session.

*For those who reserve space for USPTA certification and do not show up, they will not be eligible for USPTA Certification by The Goodwill Tennis Tours in the future.

Penalty may be too harsh afterall this is still a month away or so, so some unforseen circumstance may come up. I suggest you give the option to those reserving and not able to participate to still pay the application fee since it can't be forfeited because it's not paid yet. If they pay the application fee, then they don't get blacklisted.
