Filipino netters join Malaysian ITF Juniors

Filipino netters Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Petrombon will try to bounce back in the prestigious 15th Sarawak Chief-Minister's Cup-International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Tennis Championship 2010 beginning today in Malaysia. The 18-year old Alcantara secured a spot in the 64-man main draw following his superior ranking in the ITF world junior standing. He is currently ranked 40th.

"I'll just try to improve my game. I need to be consistent at all times as almost all players are improving their games. I'll just do my best,"said Alcantara, who won the doubles event of the 2009 Australian Open Junior Championship with Hsieh Cheng-Peng of Chinese-Taipei. The 16-year old Petrombon, however, will need to go through the qualifying event to get a slot in the knockout stage.

Besides Alcantara, Mitchell and Seong, other seeded players are Mate Zsiga of Hungary, John Morrissey of Ireland, Dominic Thiem of Austria, Ben McLachlan of New Zealand, Tobias Blomgren of Sweden and Tim Nekic of Germany.

Alcantara and Petrombon are seeking for their first title this year.

Patrombon was given a wildcard. I guess because of his good showing in Thailand.

I've always liked Patrombon's style because it's very Nadal-ish. He needs to improve his powderpuff serve if he wants to go up. He also needs to improve his mental game.

Naburyo na kasi si Alcantara sa Juniors. Dapat last year nag-start na sya sa futures tournaments. Jeson should start this year if he gets good finish at the Asian junior circuit para tuloy-tuloy yung pag-build nya ng confidence level nya.

Jesson is in the Semis, he beat USA's Mitchell Krueger 6-2;6-1 earlier today. He will face Australia's James Duckworth tomorrow.

Duckworth is a big server and I hope Jeson can make good adjustments with it.
