Alcantara lost to Wang 6-4;5-7;1-6
Once again Nino found a way to lose from a very winnable position. He was up 6-4;5-2 with 2 matchpoints against Wang's serve when the wheels suddenly fell off. This pattern has been going on for the past two years... Nino's game has really deteriorated, unfortunately there is nowhere for him to go to from here. After this performance I don't think makakakuha pa siya ng sponsors he is after all 18 years old (last year niya na sa Juniors).
Best thing for him is to go to the US for a college tennis scholarship. But going to the "pros" he might as well forget it... with his lack of mental toughness and apparent bad on-court attitude lalamunin lang siya ng mga journeyman sa ITF circuit.

She lost 1-6;7-5;0-6... pero this is a very good performance as the Thai is a veteran junior campainger who reach the 3rd round of the Australian Open this year. Bilib ako sa focus and on court demeanor ni Capdocia di mo mababasa sa mukha niya kung nananalo siya o natatalo... ang problem niya lang yung height medyo maliit mga 4'11 lang ata.

Sayang. I was hoping that Sarmiento and Alcantara will do well since its their last year in the 18s ITF and playing in their last Mitsubishi tournament. Tama assesment mo TK, yung peer group ni Nino are all Futures regulars since they were 15-16 years old(Krajinovic,Bhambri,Harrison,etc...) Nino and Jesson definitely will be our next local Pinoy top players, but their potential in the ATP remains very uncertain....Si Jesson naman, sometimes he shows flashes of brilliance pero often is very inconsistent. IMO hindi siya makadiskarte pag wala si Coach MTec. Anyway, tennis development is a long process, its too early to throw in the towel for now. Hopefully, we'll see a Pinoy in the ATP top 100 in our lifetime. I recall, Sampras, Agassi, Nadal,etc.. weren't junior grand slam winners either. I've seen one pinoy kid who has a lot of potential pero its too early too hype him baka ma jinx ko

I do hope the tandem of alcantara and sarmiento will work out till the end. I mean until they eventually turn out to be the champions sa boys doubles. As for the singles, my personal bet would be either T.Neymaton (RUS) or J.Duckworth to win the boy's title.

In fairness to Jesson I think he had an operation last November kaya dismal ang performance niya after his breakthrough stint in the Asian Championships. Pero mukang he is back on top form after a good showing in Thailand and Malaysia. His loss against Duckworth here (1-6;0-6) is much closer than the score indicates, he hits the ball more cleanly than Nino IMHO.
Sir luxilionwave, sino pinoy kid nakita mo with potential Vince Tabo-Tabo? or Jurence Mendoza?

TK, none of those kid who won a lot of 10s, 12s and 14s. I'm not really impressed with kids who won a lot of age group titles particularly the younger ones. Mainly because those kids mature early, back boarders(balik balik),hype too much, rake up points by joining a lot of tournaments, or have a rich parents.Another reason also for the very young is that the style of game that makes them successful is dramtically different from the style they'll need to win later on. There are also a lot of good strikers of the ball at 11 and 12, but you really have to wait and see what happens later especially with boys, because of the physical nature of the game. Often, they burnout, or become egotistic(laki na ulo). Those talented kids eventually catch up if they have a good support system. A good indicator probably for boys is the 16-18 age group. At this age group, I look for rate of improvement. Talent has a way of exploding at some point in many players. One top 10 American junior player in the 90s went through a five month period during which his game probably improved by as much as 50 percent. Those sorts of jumps are impressive. Boris Becker was that way. Andy Murray was that way. Becker was not that good of a junior in Germany, then he became the best junior in Europe. Next, he won the Men's singles title at Wimbledon. All of this happened in a period of about two years. The pinoy I saw is not Tabo-Tabo,not Jurence Mendoza not Lagman. Sorry TK, huwag ko muna i mention yung name, baka majinx ko siya , but I'm sure you'll hear him in the next few years.

TK, Not necessary in the provinces ,remember there's a lot of filipinos overseas who are still pinoy passport holders who are also exposed to international competitions and training without the financial burden of living in the Philippines. In short, they have the hunger to do better in life, the drive, the foreign exposure, training and competitions, and also shielded from local politics(red tape). IMO doon mangagaling ang next champion natin. Sa Cebu naman, IMO, I do think they hype a lot of young juniors. After 14 and under, wala nang resulta(remember Jopia,Tiongko, Siso, hopefully this wouldn't happen to Lagman and Tabotabo). I don't know the reasons, probably, funding problems, inadequate training or other factors??

Vince Marc Tabo-tabo has the potential to succeed in the near future. I've seen the kid train very hard w/ the help of his coach dad Titus. He's disciplined and has a good moral support system from his whole family. Of course, not to forget his achievements here and abroad at his tender age. All praise to my fellow Cebuano tennista!

I've seen Jurence Mendoza play and I can see some brilliance. He has the height, power but needs to improve his shot consistency. I hope to see a big improvement in the coming Phinma. Tama si Lux, yung improvement rate ang mahalaga rather than earning points because the kid is playing as many tournaments as he can. We've seen a lot of former world number 1's in juniors but where are they now? They may be good but they don't have the emotional and mental toughness to back up their skill.

Good news guys the team up of sarmiento & alcantara is now into the finals. They defeated seeded 8: OLIN (SWE) / WUNNER (GER) in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 (semis). The other half of the knock out boys doubles finals would be BARRY (IRL) / MCLACHLAN (NZL) seeded 4. Lets watch & cheer for them guys, they're our last hope in this ITF Jrs. championships... see yeah!

Sorry to say but not all our representative are the best that we have. We have better players with lower rankings. I was able to talk with coach Kraut and he is not happy with the players that he have(Jr Davies cup 16 yrs. under). Ranking is a good basis but should not be the only basis. We have a player who is the son of a philta rvp, who practically joins every tournament that resulted to a very high ranking who could not even win his first round match at PCA 16 yrs. under 2009 where he was seeded no.1. And he will be representing our country again. The last time he reperesented the country, jr davies cup 14 yrs. under, he only had one win against Sri Lanka, the rest he lost convincingly.

That is bad talunan na naman tayo sa Junior Davis Cup.
Kaya lang minsan its a no win situation. Pag nabypass naman yung mga No. 1 siguradong mayroong magcocomplain. Ang pinaka fair sa tingin ko 1 player (choice ng coach) tapos the rest try-out para makita kung sino ang magaling. Dalawang magaling pwede na ibangko na lang yung isa he! he!
For Junior Fed Cup mas madaling pumili since sa tingin ko angat naman sina Rudas, Nguyen at Capadocia sa mga ibang U-16 local players. Sila lang din yung may ITF ranking.
Sa boys mahirapan tayo sa U-16 mas may pagasa ata tayo sa U-14.

Finals:
Boy's Singles - Duckworth beat Blomgren 6-3;6-2 Girl's Singles- Khromacheva beat Tian 6-2;6-2
Galing ni Khromacheva 14 years old pa lang siya with this win she will become the No. 2 junior player in the world.
Pero pagdating the junior tennis walang makakatalo kay Hingis who won the 1993 French Open Junior Singles at the age of 12. Probably the youngest forever kasi ngayon kailangan 13 years old ka para mga participate the ITF Junior tournaments.

Normally the top 2 ranked players plus coach pick. This year, they conducted a try out. Top 8 players were invited plus coach invite. That was how our team was selected, which almost cost the coach his job. The rvp i was referring to lobied to remove the coach. This team is in did the best we have. Even if you ask the other juniors, they would select, mendoza, lagman and canlas. Very good selection process.
