Alcantara banners R.P. bid in Lancer netfest

Francis Casey Alcantara, Jeson Petrombon and Anna Clarice Patrimonio will lead the local charge in the 21st Mitsubishi Lancer International Juniors Championship beginning March 23 at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. Ranked No. 39 among juniors in the world, Alcantara, who became the first Filipino to win a grand slam tennis event in the doubles juniors in the Australian Open 2009, has been seeded sixth in the six-day tournament where 34 players from the top 150 in the ITF junior ranking are seeing action.

Petrombon will be a wildcard entry, although a string of impressive performance overseas recently has given reason for a Philippine tennis officials to talk up his chances in the Grade I tournament. Hungary's Matet Zsiga, the world No. 9, has been seeded No. 1 with the United States' Raymond Sarmiento in second.

Patrimonio looms as the top local hope in the girl's division, where Russia's Irina Khromacheva and Serbia's Tamara Curovic are seeded first and second respectively. The other Filipinos seeing action are Patricia Joy Orteza, Marian Jade Capadocia, Shanine Olivarez, Marinel Rudas and Katrina Orteza in the girl's division and Leander Lazaro, Kim Saraza, Akio Sy, Paul Nicole Magaway and Jacob Lagman in the boy's division.

yup, konti lang ang higher ranked foreign entries ng mga level 1 ITFs sa Asia this year. This would be the ideal tournament for the pinoys to win.

Draw is already out. Not a good very draw for the Filipinos in general (IMHO).  J. Patrombon will be playing Duckworth (Malaysia leg champion) in the first round tomorrow.

On the bright side... medyo maganda draw ni Nino.

Also, 32 countries are represented this year. Philippines with 14 entries.

First round results already posted in the ITF Website. 2 Pinoys lang ang nanalo Saraza and Capadioca... the rest talo agad. Tomorrow maglalaro na sila Nino and Raymond Sarmiento... hopefully manalo.

BDW... Jeson talo kontra Duckworth 1-6;0-6. Napanood ko medyo off ang laro ni Jeson... 100% naman si Duckworth kaya ganoon kalopsided. Naoutmatch talaga.

As of March 23, 2010 here are the partial but official results of some of our Filipino junior hopefuls (1st round):

Camplone (ITA) def. Ann Clarice Patrimonio (PHI) - 6-2, 6-2
comment: naOverpowered c patrimonio tska dami nya double faults  Embarrassed
L.Zhu (CHN) def. Marinel Rudas (PHI) - 5-7, 6-3, 6-3
comment: mas naging aggressive/in the zone yung chinese pagdating ng 2nd set onwards, pero lupet ni Rudas palaban sayang kinulang lng sa endurance
Olin (SWE) def. Akio Sy (PHI) - 6-3, 2nd set  Huh
comment: offensive maxado yung kalaban ni Sy xa nman pnay defense lng nagawa
Whittington def. Jacob Lagman (PHI) - 6-0, 2nd set  Huh
comment: no comment in short wla laban yung bata ntin haha... laki ng height difference
T.Neymaton (RUS) def. Leander Lazaro (PHI) - 6-3, 6-3
Kim Ivor Saraza (PHI) def. N.Kadchapannan (THAI) - sets score unknown  Huh
comment: eto di ko napanuod. I didn't expect na mananalo c Kim over the Thai pero straight sets daw eh  Shocked
J.Duckworth def. Jeson Patrombon (PHI) - 6-1, 6-0
comment: nothing seems working panay unforced errors inabot ni Patrombon s lban na'to. This is the same guy na tumalo sa knya sa semis sa Sarawak, Malaysia sayang di nya nagantihan haha!  Cry

Girls Doubles 1st round to be continued...
reason: either sira ang lights o wlang kuryente sa center court whaaat d' f#@l<...??!!!
Ann Clarice Patrimonio/ K.Ip vs Japanese duo - 2-6, 4-4

Boys doubles action will start on the 2nd day March 24, w/ our very own Francis Casey Alcantara teaming up w/ Fil-Am Raymond Sarmiento (USA).

Here are the singles matchup today:

Capadioca versus Nikitina (last year's finalist)
Alcantara versus Deen Hesham (member of Malaysia's Davis cup team...played both singles in their tie versus Indonesia)
Saraza versus Shiga (tournament's Top seed)
Sarmiento versus Franks (New Zealand's No. 3 junior player)

I am surprised. The girl beaten by Capadocia is in the top 100. Good for her!

Tnx for the info djokovits, sayang si Patrombon, home court pa naman. Let's see how Sarmiento will do in Philippines. First tournament niya ito since Orange Bowl last December.

Why did Sarmiento skip the Australian Open?

Most probable reason is not skipping school. He is a senior now and he will play for USC,but, he must also make the grades to be eligible. He's playing this tournament since it's spring break in the US.

I plan to watch on Saturday. Do you know when the matches starts on this day? Will it still be 9am?
