Companies comes out with new racket models every year. Although some a merely paint jobs. They do this for sales purposes.
Do we really need to buy newer models when one comes-out? We know that even pros stick to their old reliable but for advertisement they're painted to look like the new models.
As recreational players how often do we really need to change rackets? From Intelligence to Liquidmetal to Flexpoint to Microgel and now Youtek? All in a matter of years?

hmm... depende na lang siguro yan kung maarte kang tao. at kung talagang hardcore tennis fan ka ng isang player. haha. pero gaya nga ng sabi ng iba, wala sa raketa yan, nasa performance. yun oh! I rarely change or upgrade my rackets. But for purposes of discussion, I say 3 to 5 years is enough. hehe.

kung wala lang nagbibigay sa kin ng new rackets i'll stick to my reliable wilson triad 6.0. i think yung mga palit-palit na yan is because we have many choices of brands/models today at yung ibang papalit-palit e maraming pera yan! kung may choice ka naman at mapera ka to collect and select, y not d ba? others prefer to buy sticks used by their idols. yung iba naman kya gustong magpalit, sawa na sa old raket nila. iba-iba siila ng reasons pero for me cguro khit after 10yrs pwede pa sa kin yung aeropro drive black ko eh

As for me, I will just stick to my racquet. Bili lang ako kapag nagsawa na ako sa isa. Which is still the farthest thing from my mind. I'm very choosy when it comes to this.

if you guys remember, jimmy connors had a hard time parting with his T-2000 during his playing career. he switched to an Estusa during his famous run at the 1990 ?? US open. lost to edberg in the semis. he uses a prince mono. i myself play with the original prince graphite OS. have 12 of them. they are harder to find now especially the prior generations. the new hi tech frames don't have the same feel as the prince graphite

I have still Brand New Prince Graphite OS naka plastic pa at leather ang cover nya nasa kabaong ko nakatago lang.
If you guys are RICH, you can buy every year, every model comes out.

most of the original graphites i buy are used from e bay. rated around a 7-8/10. what i do is replace the grips with the new resi grips and restring the rackets with a 17M/18C setup. i'm not rich either. i do have a few exo graphite 100's as well. the new frames take a little bit of getting used to. by the way, i don't pay full retail for the new frames. i'm not rich either. i just happen to be on the team prince teaching pro staff program. to be honest with you, i like the old technology so much better. the new rackets are just for show, when i teach or do a demo. but come matchplay, i'll bust out a POG. sometimes players will be finding me using a woodie. the new frames can be troublesome at times. so it's best to have your old ones handy. if you are able to stockpile on a racket that you like, you're better off doing it. hindi masisira ang laro mo dahil gamay mo ang raketa. just my opinion.

strings jobs are just as important as well. you should be restringing your racket every so often. no of days you play a week should be the no of times you should restring in a year.

.... when my racquet breaks. Which has been from 5-7 years, playing 2-3 times a week, with medium to high tensions. Sometimes I feel the racquet rattles or doesn't feel solid, and on closer inspection I find a crack. Sometimes the stringer calls my attention to it.

its a personal thing to buy new models racquets. although u have choose to use ur favorite raqs for many years, new models are simply too irresistible to own for some. definitely its not the racquet, its the player. but raqs helps improve game performance, string too contribute. its the whole package on how u set up ur equipment for a better game outcome..

Upgrade your rackets once a year, if you listen to racket manufacturers.
Every spring, some new technology is introduced (not really “new” since these incremental “improvements” have been blueprinted at least a couple of years prior). For example, inside information at Wilson reveals that the BLX basalt technology is not having the desired effect on sales so they are accelerating the introduction of the next phase for the fall season of 2010. This new tech will be called INF. This will consist of a special process whereby the INF material will be mixed with Karophite and injected into the graphite matrix. This INF is an organic material chemically synthesized on a nanoscale using specialized nanobots. These “live” nanomaterials is designed to attach itself onto the graphite fibers on the subatomic level and deliver real-time racket specification variations and adjustments according to swingspeed and force of ball impact. In short, INF is a “smart” nanocomponent of the racket and it is able to predict what the player intends to accomplish with every stroke and adjusts the specs accordingly to maximize the performance. This amazing organic material is derived from the Ihi Ni Federer.

Good one!

boris becker during his prime had 2000 frames stashed away in storage. even pete sampras had several humdred of the pro staff st vincent models. so if there's a frame that you really like to use and it fits your game, why change to a different frame? just my opinion.

from what I heard, tennis pros stick to their original racquet and their sponsors just do a good paintjob on their old stick to make it look like a new stick. meron ba tong katotohanan mga PTO masters? I heard Andre Agassi is a good example...

oo nga, mukhang mahirap kc yung mga kalaban mo may advantage na sa gaan and tech ng racquet tapos yung sayo medyo mabigat parin ng konti. if you're able to still match-up against newer oppponents with improved racquets, 2 thumbs up for you sir! I just returned to tennis a few months ago and addicted uli ako to the game. Yung gamit ko ay the circa 90s Prince CTS Synergy and Graphite Tour. Ok lang naman, but I eventually bought a Babolat pure drive GT. I like the spin and mas magaan, less effort to generate more power. My other sport is golf kasi, and sa golf every few months may bagong equipment. While the improvements over the past few years siguro have not been much in creating distance, definitely sooo much better sila ngayon vs a 90s na golf club.
