sayang di ko napanood yung match but i was able to see the highlights of the match. ganda ng laro ni ljubicic parang simple lang ang tennis sa knya. most of his winners were effortless kung tignan.

question is roddick moving out of his prime?

i read a funny answer from a forum:
"He still goes home to Brooklyn Decker, so even when he loses.. he wins!"

Good question, I hope (and believe) he can still win a 2nd grandslam (except when he has to play against Federer, he he he)..

SONY ERICSSON OPEN 2010-Miami, Florida

Nadal on course for showdown with Federer

That sweaty but happy contestant skipping across the court in the neon yellow shirt Sunday was Rafael Nadal, no longer No. 1 but waving his index finger anyway after a third-round victory at the Sony Ericsson Open. It has been 10 months since Nadal won a tournament, but he showed some of his old championship swagger by rallying past dangerous wild card David Nalbandian 6-7(Cool,6-2,6-2.

Nadal, seeded fourth, remain on course for a showdown against the real No. 1 rival, Roger Federer. They haven't met since May in Madrid, but their paths to the final became more easier when No. 2 Novak Djokovik and No. 3 Andy Murray lost their opening matches. "It doesn't affect me a lot that Murray or Djokovik are out if I lose today,"Nadal said. As for who he might play next Sunday:"If I'm in the final, I don't care".

A potential semifinal opponent is No. 6 Andy Roddick, who reached the final 16 by beating Segiy Stakhovsky in 55 minutes, 6-2,6-1. Nadal will next face fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, who beat Ivo Karlovic 7-6(5), 6-3.

NADAL CRUISES INTO MONTE CARLO QUARTERFINALS

Monaco - Rafael Nadal has breezed into the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters with a 6-0,6-1 win over Michael Berrer and joins three of the Spaniards in the final eight. Berrer won his only game Thursday when serving at 0-5, prompting cheers from the crowd.

Second-seeded Nadal has now won 29 straight matches at this event with his last loss coming in 2003. Nadal next plays either fifth-seeded Jo-Wilferd Tsonga of France or ninth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain.

Sixth-seeded Fernando Verdasco, No. 11 David Ferrer and Albert Montanes all won their third round matches. Verdasco rallied from a set down to beat Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 5-7,6-3,6-2, Ferrer beat No. 8 Ivan Ljucibic of Croatia 6-0,7-6(4) and Montanes won 6-4,6-4 against No. 4 Marin Cilic, dominating the big serving Croat from the baseline.

Lalaro kaya siya sa Madrid to defend his title?

The way Nadal crushed his opponents at Monte Carlo last week, no doubt in my mind that he will recapture the French Open tile in May. Such a grandmaster on clay court!

BARCELONA OPEN BANCSABADELL
Nadal Forced To Withdraw From Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain 19.04.2010
http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2010/04/16/Barcelona-Monday-Nadal-Withdraws.aspx

Rafael Nadal has announced his decision to withdraw from the Barcelona Open BancSabadell – 58th Conde de Godó Trophy, organisers confirmed Monday. The Mallorcan player will hold a press conference at the tournament, which commenced earlier today, at noon on Tuesday in order to explain the reasons behind his decision.

In a message relayed by his communications manager, Rafael Nadal declared, “I am really sorry not to be able to play in Barcelona, more than any other tournament, but this year after the win in Monte Carlo my body is asking me to rest. I repeat that I’m especially sorry not to play there, because I would like it to be understood that it really is that way, because it is played in my club and it is my home tournament.

"I want to extend my thanks in advance to the members of the club, the organisers of the tournament, and all of the fans for their understanding. Tomorrow I will be in Barcelona and will be available for the organisers.”

nothing to prove na rin cya sa barcelona open. with his 5 years winning ways, matatagalan mapantayan o ma-surpass ito.

Kailangan talaga mamili ang mga players which tournaments to join. Since kailangan nila magpa-kundisyon para sa mga major tournaments, sometimes they skip tournaments in preparation to a tournament more important to them.

Comparing Nadal and Federer with Tournaments skipped, mukhang mali yata na sabihin na 'mas extreme' si Federer. For this year, lamang si Nadal ng isang tournament which is Monte Carlo kasi nga Federer skipped. Pero I don't think it is fair to say na extreme ito. Nadal had skipped Mandatory tournamentS before including his Wimbledon title defense last year. At ngayon, pati tournament ng tennis club niya.

Sa tingin ko malapit na magpalit ng World number 1 and Nadal should not skip so many tournaments to earn precious points para makabalik siya sa number 1, pero siyempre dapat makabalik muna siya sa 2.

Verdasco wins the Barcelona Open title.

Next tournament, The Internazionali BNL D'Italia, where Federer and Nadal is seeded to meet in the Seminfinals. Nadal is the tournament's defending champion.

Federer and Nadal haven’t played since Federer’s win in Madrid last May.
Top seed Federer, is also playing his first clay event since his 2009 French Open title.

Top-seeded Federer lost to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia (62 16 57) in the 2nd round of ATP 1000 Masters Tournament in Rome. Doesn't look good for the reigning French Open champion as the Grand Slam Clay tournament draws near...

Try comparing the tournaments Nadal and Federer entered in 2008 and 2009 (pre-Nadal injury) so you can really see my point. Base from my observations, Nadal skips tournaments due to a 'real' injury. About Wimbledon, the guy was injured in the first place so how can he compete at the level Roger is playing? Also, which player in his right mind would skip a tourney where he is a Defending Champion? Si Djokovic puwede pa siguro. hehe. Grin Grin Grin

Going back to the 'extreme' issue, from what I can see, Roger simply skips tournaments when he doesn't feel like playing or he needs to prepare for a better (and big time/purse/points) tournament.

Well siguro nga he can choose when and where to play because he is the No.1 player on tour but this should not be the case for the fans deserve better. I am a Federer fan as well pero yan ang palagay ko na ginagawa niya (diskarte niya siguro). I salute Nadal for displaying more perseverance and endurance on tour despite of its very unforgiving schedule.

Djokovic and Murray works harder by playing more tournaments than these guys pero again Fed is compared against Nadal. Smiley So this is between Federer and Nadal.

I am not sure what's your basis kaya di ko makita ang point mo but here's what I got for 2008 (the same year which you specifically picked).

Di ko na titingnan ang 2009 dahil sinabi mo hindi na kasama bago mag-reason-out si Nadal na injured siya after his French Open beating.

This list includes ATP sanctioned tournaments and excludes exhibition matches and Davis Cup appearances of both players.

Mukhang pareho lang ang number of tournaments. Mas nilaro nga lang ni Fed ang mga Major Tournaments where Nadal played more minor tournaments and skipped the year end championship in China (Tennis Masters Cup), which he did several times kaya kinailangan maghanap ng alternate. Go figure!

Top-seeded Federer lost to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia (62 16 57) in the 2nd round of ATP 1000 Masters Tournament in Rome. Doesn't look good for the reigning French Open champion as the Grand Slam Clay tournament draws near...

Pabagsak na talaga ang laro ni Federer. His past tournaments where not so good. Indian Wells, Miami and then this week in Rome. This time is a good time for other aspiring players to take the number 1 position.

Sino kaya ang susunod? Will Nadal regain World Number 1? Or may be it time for the new ones like Djokovic? Makakabalik kaya uli si Murray or even Del Potro? Well see...

Nadal could be number 1 again but could not also because his team is now focusing on being staying healthy in every tournaments he plays.
That would mean they will less care on playing many tournaments to get more points.
Therefore this plan could affect his rankings.
Because of his playing style/condition/injuries, they pushed this decision cause they want Nadal to play for more years.

Djokovic and Murray could also being number 1 they're just waiting for the right time.
We hope Djokovic will stay healthy.

Other guys such as Del Potro,  Cilic and many more are catching up.... including Ernest Gulbis.
I once said Gulbis could go up the rankings on the level of his friend Djokovic.
He was not seriously playing tennis the past years.
But now, with a new coach/trainer and a new perspective, he's starting to get serious.
This year, he won the Delray Beach Tournament and had taken Federer in DOHA in 3 sets although he lost.
And yesterday he whipped Federer.
These are testament of his new "look".  Grin Grin Grin

Its no secret that Federer main targets are Major tournaments(Grandslam).
Now he is 28 years old, for the many years he has been playing, he won 16 Grandslam Tournaments and  compiled only 16 ATP Masters Tournaments. Please correct me if I'm wrong....

Compared to Nadal,  23 years old, he won only  6 Grandslam Tournaments and compiled also 16 ATP Masters.

Federer once said that, he prefers to play Grandslam because of the format of 5 sets.(including the big pots$$$.... and points ofcourse  Grin Grin Grin)
With that 5 sets, he can always find a way to recover. If sets are stretch to the limit, the fatigue factor on his opponents will become his advantage. Although he was very successful with this, he still needs to find a way when he's playing Nadal.

Go figure!
