Former world No.1 Justine Henin says she has matured during her 20th month break from tennis and can be a better player when she makes a return  to the sport next week.
Henin 27, told a news conference Tuesday she "grew up" during her absence from the court and can eclipse the standard she set in winning seven grand slam titles. The Belgian will play in next week's Brisbane International and the subsequent Sydnet International before contesting the Jan 18-31 Australian Open as a wild card.
While keeping expectations in check, she said a second Australian Open title was "possible". "I believe I can be a better player, I believe I can use my experience more than in the past," Henin said.
Henin said her absence from tennis has given her personal insight and perspective, adding that she didn't watch a set of tennis in the first 12 months after retirement and now returns to the sport refreshed and self-aware.
Henin appeared more relaxed at Tuesday's news conference than in the past, when she was often perceived as aloof. I'm 27 now I just want to live my second career differently to how I did in the past," she said. "It's been a great experience to go out of the tennis world for 18 months and to come back because I feel I grew up."

Australian Open will be truly exciting with Henin back, Clisters, William sisters, Sharapova, Safina.... you might as well toss a coin to predict the winner.

HENIN SCORES FIRST COMEBACK WIN, MAY BATTLE CLIJSTERS IN FINALS

Brisbane: An emotional Justine Henin said she was almost over-whelmed by the occasion when she made a triumphant return to the women's tennis tour at the Brisbane International on Monday.

Henin, playing her first match since May 2008, upset second seeded Russian, Nadia Petrova, 7-5, 7-5, in the first round of the season ending tournament. "It's a different Henin", Petrova said. The former world no. 1 proved she can still be a force in the women's game as she showed all her steely determination to defeat Petrova. "I've been waiting for this moment for so long, and finally I walked on the court, and the crowd cheered-I was really touched by the crowd, " she said.

Clijsters, also playing in Brisbane won her first round match on Sunday and organizers will be delighted that there is still a chance the two Belgian rivals will meet in Saturday final.

Henin beat Sesil Karatantcheva (KAZ) 6-4, 6-3 to barge into the quarterfinals of the Women's Singles at the Brisbane International Open. Let's hope she can sustain her winning form up to the finals.

Brisbane, Australia-Former No. 1-ranked Justin Henin has edged Melinda Czink in a challenging three-set match to reach the semifinals in her comeback tournament. Henin beat the seventh-seeded Czink 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5), at the Brisbane International in a quarterfinal lasting 2 hours,21 minutes, and next faces Ana Ivanovic.

The seven-time major winner struggled at times in a match that opened with five straight service breaks. She dropped a set for the first time in three matches, and wasted a break and three match points in the third. Henin clinched the match on her sixth match point, 24 minutes after her first.

Ivanovic advanced 6-4, 7-6(6), earlier over 18 year old Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Cljisters beat Henin by the slimmest of margins 6-3; 4-6; 7-6 (8-6).  Katatapos pa lang napanood ko livestream sa internet. High Quality match medyo nagkakaroon lang na konting mental lapses kung minsan.

I also watched the livestream. Henin proved that she can still be a force to reckon with. For her first comeback tournament since May, 2008 she reached the final as a wild card entry. Force rivals in the court, their career have been marred of speculation of severe rifts off the court. Henin, while admitting they weren't close friends, was keen to play down any talk of bad blood.

"Just because we're are from the same country does not mean we have to be best friends" Henin said."But there is so much respect between the two of us". Henin said it was a case of two different personalities.

Double faults (11 to be exact) and fatigue in the tiebreak are the factors that caused the defeat of Justine Henin in the championship match.

Despite the loss this is a good showing by Henin.... even for a top player, mahirap naman magchampion agad after a long lay off. In my recollection parang si Monica Seles pa lang ang nakakagawa non.... when she beat Anke Huber in the Canadian Open (Tier 1 tournament)... yung comeback niya after the stabbing incident.

Belgium unseeded former world number one Justine Henin as drawn today in the same half of the Australian Open women's singles draw as U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters and world number two Dinara Safina. The seven-time Grand Slam champion is on the comeback trail after 19 months out of the game and is noted the most dangerous unseeded floater in the women's draw.

Henin, who begins with an opening round against fellow Belgian Kristen Flipkens and a likely second-round engagement with the Russian 5th seed Elena Dementieva, could face Clijsters in the quarterfinals in the bootom half of the women's draw. Clijsters beat her great Belgian rival 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(8/6) in a classic final at the Brisbane International earlier this month. Clijsters, who is seeded 15th opens the year's first grand slam tournament against a qualifier.

I just watched it.... a very high quality entertaining match. Bad luck for Dementieva for having Henin in the second round.

Henin will next play Kleybanova, a big hitting russian with a good serve and hard groundstrokes. Prediction: Henin has too much game she will win in straight sets.
