WORLD junior championship veteran Mark Balce pulled off an impressive title double in the boys’ 18-under and 16-under play yesterday in the Olivarez Age Group Tennis Championships at the Olivarez Sports Center in Parañaque City.

The third-ranked Balce used a variety of shots to beat fourth seed Jolo Opulencia, 6-3, 6-1, for his sixth 18-under title of the year before claiming a fifth 16-under crown by drubbing Juan Fidel Regis, 6-1, 6-1.

In other finals, third seed Shannin Olivarez stunned top seed Joan Opulencia, 6-4, 6-1, to snare the girls’ 14-under title; No. 2 Melissa Orteza upended top seed Trudy Amoranto, 7-5, 7-5, for the girls’ 18-under title; and unranked Jennifer Salomon scored the tournament’s biggest victory, winning the 16-under crown over Joan Opulencia, 6-3, 6-4.

In the boys’ competitions, second seed Jose Lorenzo Ferrer captured the boys’ 14-under title over Kyle Cordero, 6-3, 6-1, second seed Jacob Lagman downed third seed Arjohn dela Cruz, 6-2, 6-1, for the boys’ 12-under plume, and third seed Ericka Lagura took the unisex 10-under title over Mark Escares with a 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-3 win.

Yup, ang dami nga daw surprises dito sa katatapos na Olivarez Age Group Tournament.  Salomon was phenomenal.  I know that for a fact because I know Joan Opulencia very well and I know how good she is.  For Salomon to beat her, she must be really exceptional.  San Francisco, CA based daw yan and nagbabakasyon lang dito.  Sana ma-feature natin sya dito sa Philippine Tennis Online.

ilang taon na kaya si solomon? alam ko rin na magaling talaga si opulencio so that's quite a shocker. i've also seen shannin played and this kid looks very promising.
