Lim on track for possible twin win

SARAH JANE Lim came through with big victories to claim semifinals seats in two age divisions yesterday in the Philta Metro Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Lim, the top pick in the girls’ 16 and under, barged into the semifinals of her group by blanking eighth seed Nadine Castillo, 6-0, 6-0.
She returned in the afternoon and stunned fourth seed Alyssa Mendoza, 6-1, 6-2, in the girls’ 18 and under quarterfinals to arrange a Last 4 date with top seed Trudy Gine Amoranto, who ousted No. 5 Enah Baba, 6-0, 6-3.
Completing thge 18 and under semifinals cast were No. 2 Melissa Orteza, who advanced on the no-show of of Akita San Andres, and sixth seed Rachel Lucero, who bumped off July Javelosa, 6-2, 6-2.
Lim will also go for a finals berth in the 16 and under against unseeded Patricia Orteza, who upset third seed July Javelosa, 64, 6-3.
Fourth seed Rachel Lucero and unseeded Jasmine Tan Ho will dispute the other finals berth after Lucero defeated Baba, 6-3, 6-1, and Tan Ho ousted Samantha Coyiuto, 6-3, 62.
In the boys’ division, the favorites stamped their class anew with 14 and under top seed Kyle Cordero thrashing No. 8 Freemoore Dominisac, 6-1, 6-0, and 12 and under No. 1 Calvin Canlas dumping eighth pick Anton Punzalan, 6-1, 6-3.
It was the same story in the unisex 10 and under as top seed Vince Salas whipped fifth seed Bruce Valenzuela, 6-2, 6-0.
Other 110 and under winners were second seed Eric Olivarez, who ousted No. 6 Isabela Orteza, 6-4, 6-4; Brysl Libao, who trounced Jose Lorenzo Cruz, 6-3, 6-0; and Vince Tabo Tabo, a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Margaret Flores.
Tabo Tabo also made the boys’ 12 and under semifinals by booting out Hans Asistio, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0, for a meeting with Canlas.
Clashing in the other 12 and under semis are second seed Enrique Ferrer, a 6-4, 6-4, winner over No. 6 Jeremiah Latorre, and fifth seed Argil Canizares, who hammered out a thrilling 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (7) decision over Brysl Libao.
Joining Cordero in the 14 and under Last 4 were Canlas, who beat Carl Kie, 6-2, 6-1; third seed Bernardino Siso, who blanked Rafael Squillantini, 6-0, 6-0; and Arjohn dela Cruz, who scored a 60, 6-1 victory over Jorel Buenaflor.
Later in the afternoon, boys’ 16 and under top seed Casey Alcantara stamped his class over No. 5 Roman Floresa, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the third seeded Cordero, Leander Lazaro and Luis Duldulao into the semifinals.
Cordero claimed a second win for the day by trouncing seventh seed Jose Narvaez, 6-1, 6-1, while Lazaro upset No. 4 lNic Magaway, 6-4, 6-4, and Duldulao rallied past Carlo Vallao, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1.
