Johnny Arcilla showed experience, grit and determination in beating Mikal Staham 6-3; 2-6; 6-4.  It more than made up for Elberto Anasta's 1-6; 5-7 loss to Mikal's twin Rubin Staham.

Johnny was actually up 5-1 in the third set before Staham got his bearings and won 3 games in a row. Johnny woke just in time to close the match as 5-4 on his serve.  While, first time davis cupper Anasta was very nervous especially in the first set making error after error literally giving the set away to the more consistent Staham. Second set was more close with Anasta outhinking Staham at crucial points but Staham more match experience showed in the end clsoing the match after despite loosing 6 or 7 match points.  It was a brave fight by Anasta who if given more international matches might make a better account of himself the next time.

Well the best news is were back to Group 1 and if I am not mistaken 2 countries from this Group will make it to the World Qualifying let as just hope the Australia will be put on the other side of the draw.  Sana China, Korea or even Japan ang mapunta sa side (draw) natin, we have a good chance on beating these teams especially kung the PCA pa rin gagawin.

Maaasahan talaga si Arcilla sa shell court... next year na ba ang susunod na draw? .o this year din?

From the Davis Cup website: Gaganapin ang draw for next year this Thursday, Septbember 24, 2009 sa Geneva, Switzerland.

The top 4 seeds in Group 1 Asia are:  1. Australia  2. Korea   3. Uzbekistan   4. Japan .... Mabigat dito Australia and Uzbekistan with players in the Top 100.

Other members in Group 1 Asia are:  Chinese Tapei, Kazakstan and China.

India nanalo sa world group qualifying kaya as world group proper na sila. Thailand naman na demoted sa Group 2 next year.

Eto na yung 2010 draw:

ASIA/OCEANIA ZONE
First Round

Australia (s)(c) v Chinese Taipei

Japan (s)(c) v Philippines

China P.R. (c) v Uzbekistan (s)

Kazakhstan (c) v Korea, Rep. (s)

First Round ties to be played on 5-7 March 2010.

--------

Medjo mahirap ang draw natin. Tapos sa Japan pa gaganapin, pati choice of ground sa Japan pa.
