3rd Round Playoff vs New Zealand and possibly back to Group I with a win!

Randy or anyone, any news on venue so that we fans can make plans to support the team in September?

Thanks!

Kiwis are very adept as hard courts so the venue should be at the PCA.... although we did beat them 4-1 in in hard courts at their own turf 2 years ago.

Maganda ang preparasyon ata ng Philippine Davis Cup team. Huey fresh from the US circuits, Cecil coming from Italy, PJ playing the Malaysian futures, Nino coming from the US Open juniors, Arcilla coming from India futures, RP cuppers should be ready.  Cool

The NZ team is unchanged from the one that beat Indonesia 5-nil.

They are:
Dan King-Turner - ATP rank 343,
Rubin Statham - ATP rank 395,
GD Jones  - ATP rank 845, and
Oliver Statham - ATP rank 893

Dan King-Turner is the best ranked. So on paper he must be player 1 in the team.

What about the Philippine team? Who are officially in the team? What are their current ATP rankings?

Good luck to the Pinoys!

Saan pwedeng bumili ng tickets?

Answering my own question, re: the Philippine team:

Cecil MAMIIT - ATP rank 410
Patrick-John TIERRO - ATP rank (NONE YET)
Treat Conrad HUEY - ATP rank 1008
Francis Casey ALCANTARA   ATP rank (NONE YET)

So in paper it looks like the NZ team is the favourite. I hope its only on paper.

Tinalo naman natin sila nung 2007 kaya we don't know...

Curious, who will play the second singles. Wala ko tiwala sa game ni Huey, when it comes to shell court, eventhough he won that match against Pakistan.

Sir Lux, we have the same opinion but whom do you think would play the 2nd singles instead of Huey?
I know sa doubles okay siya pero sa singles meron tayong doubts.....

My answer would be funny, probably between PJ Tierro and Arcilla, only because it's at PCA, and its shell court. The veterans, I believe can still contribute. Pero sa doubles, siempre si Huey and Cecil. Smiley Smiley

Agree ako dyan sir Addie.

Kaso nga lang may history na sila ni Robin STATHAM (one of the NZ players). Tinalo sya noong 2007, carpet ang surface.

Pwedeng motivation for revenge.

In five sets yata yun.

Matanong ko pala, ano ba ang criteria ng selection sa Davis cup team ng 'Pinas? Meron bang try-outs?

Discretionary choices from the team coach or captain, I think. They also had a tryout tournament this year which Tierro won hereby granting him team membership. And probably selecting Nino because of his potential. IMO this seems fair except sana that huwag din pabayaan yung mga local men's players and if they are getting some Fil-Ams yung at least calibre ni Cecil when he was playing in his prime.  Smiley

Para sakin Huey should still play at No. 2, malalaki mga kiwis they have big serves na baka hindi makaya sagutin nila tierro or Arcilla.  Besides Arcilla's foray in India is not that impressive ... Huey is still the better singles player.

Are the kiwis familiar with shellcourt?  Grin Grin Grin
What would be the effect on how they play  in this kind of court?

I know that G.D Jones is a grinder. I'm not familar with the rest. The only reason I like Arcilla and Tierro is because of their experiences and familiarity playing at PCA.
I'm not sure though if Arcilla's body can still hold up at this level. Yeah, Huey is still young but I'm still not impressed at his form recently. Good luck to the team though.

Nasa news na tinanggihan pala nila Alcantara & Tierro yung offer to be in the team.

In fairness, whatever their reasons are, parang nawala ang paghanga ko sa dalawang ito dahil sa ginawa nila.

si Nino, i think because sa US Open campaign niya. Si PJ, studies daw.  Understandable yung ke PJ.  Yung ke Nino, oh well, kanya-kanya yan eh.  Sayang yung opportunity for int'l exposure.

Nino's still at Lexington, Kentucky playing a level 1 ITF. He'll leave for LA this Saturday with Jun. I agree with you guys, mas valuable yung Davis Cup experience niya instead of playing this tournament.
