Kay Steffi Graf nga ako sir Addie  Grin  only player to ever win a Golden Slam (4 Grand Slams and Olympic Gold on the same year) and she did all of this with a slice backhand...  partida na yun  Grin

Eto palaisipan....

Nadal has 6 Grans Slams all of them at the expense of Fed...  If Fed is the greatest of all time... and Nadal consistently beats Federer and dominates Federer.... What or who is Nadal? Lips Sealed

At ang bumugbog kay Nadal that day ay siya na mismo ang nagsabi na Federer is the greatest of all time. May be that means something.

Sampras was once declared as the greatest of all time. Marami contra noon sa declaration na ito. Pero para sa akin, at that time, Sampras for me was the greatest.

Dumating ang time ni Federer and now most is saying that he is the greatest of all time pati American Sports magazine na Sports Illustrated ay ito na din ang sinasabi. Surely, a lot is not in agreement.

Eventually, mawawala din si Federer at may papalit na sasabihang greatest of all time. Sino naman kaya ito? Ito ang malaking question mark??? Baka gusto ninyo magbukas ng topic para malaman natin who's the man other than Federer at this time and can erase all doubts on who's the greatest of all time?

Tama, ako hinde ako maka federer but for me he is the greatest of all time.
1.  The grandslam titles.
2.  Won all 4 grandslam.

Wink
Ayoko pa magretire si Nadal but if Nadal misses the US Open or will be ousted again in the early rounds mejo delikado na ang career niya. August p ang US Open.

sampras and federer are among the greatest players pro tennis has produced. although we should give credit to federer once he surpass pete's record in grands slam trophies (this wimbledon 2009). but again, its not all about stats. gaya nga ng sabi ni TG how can he be the greatest if he is always dominated by rafael nadal?

definitions of "GREATEST"

Greatest in size of those under consideration
Greatest in importance or degree or significance or achievement
Not to be surpassed
Highest in quality

the forth definition really is the question in mind for people who wants federer to be the greatest of all-time

on a different note, i think pete has put another feather in his cap by simply stating that "federer is the greatest player". His Modesty has put him on another level which you won't find in others  Wink

You know me, I'm not a die-hard fan of Roger Federer nor a Rafael Nadal Fan as well, but I admire both their playing skills and talent. Plus Rafa's heart and killer's instinct.

With this said, the argument that "How can Roger be the greatest if he's dominated by someone from his era?" can be countered by this perspective. Tennis is a tournament style sport. It's not a MMA Superfight where you only have to defeat the opponent on the other side to be declared the champ. You have to win every match for you to progress to the next round untill you reach your ultimate goal of a Grandslam or ATP Trophy. So what if he doesn't have a good record against one player? Rafa's one-on-one record against Roger don't mean anything if he fails to advance because someone who's supposed to be lower ranked trounces him.

Greatness can also be gleaned from his record of consistently winning against different opponents and not by just having a superior record against a single player.

Now I'm playing the devil's advocate. angel

hi bro DW! btw, nice playing with you last friday at olivarez  Smiley

as i've given my opinion and you have given yours, and coupled by everyone here in the forum, it will take a long line of rows and columns and nobody gets the final say. imo, to put this topic to a temporary halt, let SAMPRAS and FEDERER be the greatest player of their age/era.

again, imo, how does it feel to hold a championship trophy when you know someone in the background wears a bad ass sarcastic smile hehehe.

well im hoping someday roger can overcome his consistency in losing to nadal. when that day comes, i'd be one of the happiest person for roger  Wink

tama sir addie. pwedeng ganun. pangit naman kung sasabihin nila in public na hindi greatest si federer in front of media na buong mundo nakasubaybay after all ng 14 grandslams and counting nya di ba? kelangan mabango ang tennis.

hi members! as i have observed in this topic, everyone's really participating to share their own comments and opinions, which i think is healthy for the forum per se. i think we, the PTO, the organization that comprises the forum, gets quite a little bit eccentric sometimes.

opinions are here to share. come on guys, we're together here as an org, we have a common mission and vision, that is to spearhead tennis in our country. let's leave the indifferences of opinions here in the forum and when we meet in the future EBs, it's a different thing. for me, i love PTO! sulong PTO!

Greetings edreams:

It wouldn't bother me one bit if the guy smiling lost to a lower ranked player only in the fourth round. It's not my fault he got clobbered and in the process eliminated before he got the chance to face me. If he want to win only against me then he should switch to mixed martial arts. While I consistently advance to the finals against whomever.  Grin  Grin Grin

That so called consistency in loosing to someone can easily be avoided. How? Play more matches on the surface I like, hard and grass and imitate this guy's style of avoiding playing me on my fave surface.  Wink

thanks for replying commander ians. this forum is great. i need to post some more right? by the way, this is an off topic but I like most all of the players in ATP its just that they have distinct style of play. like nadal is more on power and federer is more on finess but they both have the heart.

Sir Addie, i have no question, and i am very much agreeable that Roger Federer is indeed a great player... But in the context that Roger Federer is THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME (and makin him the only one), i could not agree to that... There are a lot of great players before Roger's era and , for me, it is a disrespect to the great pioneers of the sport... As per my observations here, we are sticking to numbers by the way we judge a great player which i think is very ironic to being a great player... First thing first - NUMBERS - they are counting and made to be surpassed and that's what made Roger Federer so far the GREATEAST PLAYER OF HIS OWN ERA - because he broke some record... But that does not make him the ONLY GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME... I also believe that someday in some other time, someone will work with numbers greater that what is written in the history books now... Again i leave you with my premise - Roger Federer is ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME...

yup yup FED is already one of the greatest player, yihii!!! lets go ROGER lets GO!!!!

yes fabs one of the greatest si idol federer!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy sarcastic naman ako minsan. hahaha!

Tamay kayong dalawa, Roger Federer is ONE OF THE GREATEST players... (NOT the ONLY GREATEST PLAYER as some would like to impose here... once again, just my opinion and observation.. yihi...)  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

 kNUBS
In your own opinion , who is the greatest player?.. sa men ha! Huh

Well said Knubs!... but you did not answer my question!.. in your own opinion who is the greatest? Huh

For me nga, there are a lot of great players, one of them is Roger Federer; others are Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, at marami pang iba... They all lived in different era and they are all considered the greatest players of their own times...

@knubs

ok na yung "greatest player of all time" pag "ONLY GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME" redundant na, pasok natin si Nadal as one of the greatest player, yihii!!! angel

Dapat, "ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS" nga... Nadal - ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS in the history of tennis... Hmmm... Wala naman masama di ba?  angel

Hanggang "ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS" lang ako Mikki... Being the "GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME" is not in my context...

Sir Addie,
Same answer po... Wala po ako maibibigay, kasi "BEING THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME" is not in my context... It seems that you are looking for the one and only person... I'm sorry, but you are asking me something that for me is incomparable especially with time... Roger Federer is just one of the Greatest Fruits from the Greatest Roots of a very long time ago... Again, this is what i believe in and i will stand by it... Cheers!!!  Grin Grin Grin

What??? So you mean to say there are alot of greatest players of ALL TIME? Are you kidding me or you're just trying to be funny? This is not grammatically correct if you ask me. There maybe alot of great players, each in his own time. But to say greatest player of all time, there should only be ONE.

Federer is the greatest in this era and I'm sure there will be more greats to come.

Mejo naiintindihan ko na kung anong requirements to be the greatest.

Must be no. 1 for 7 consecutive years
Must have won wimbledon for 7 consecutive years
Must have won all surfaces within a year - the player must do it thrice in his career
Must have dominated all the players in the tour and did not have a loosing streak   regardless if the surface is clay or not.

Don't count on it. Because if ever there will be a player who'll be able to meet all these requirements you've mentioned, they'll still say he's not the greatest. Why? Because if ever he does dominate all the players in his era, then they will be grandslam less, hence someone would again say he defeated a bunch of patsies.

Oh well, oh well... So what's your point? I believe it is the same as mine (yeah boy!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy)... I have been pointing that out since i started posting in this thread... Because there have been greatest players in their own times, then let me just rephrase it for you... ROGER FEDERER - ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS IN TENNIS HISTORY... wahehe...  Grin Grin Grin

My point is wrong yung grammar pero you're right off topic yun.  Grin Grin Grin

Hahahaha... Grin Grin Grin

hi members! as i have observed in this topic, everyone's really participating to share their own comments and opinions, which i think is healthy for the forum per se. i think we, the PTO, the organization that comprises the forum, gets quite a little bit eccentric sometimes.

opinions are here to share. come on guys, we're together here as an org, we have a common mission and vision, that is to spearhead tennis in our country. let's leave the indifferences of opinions here in the forum and when we meet in the future EBs, it's a different thing. for me, i love PTO! sulong PTO!
