most pro players started their tennis lessons at a young age. mostly around 5-10 years old.

however, if you really are obsessed about it, pwede ka naman maging ACE player sa clubs dito sa pinas.

by the way, are you related to muselguart who recently posted a same-natured topic? you can read along the replies to that topic and have some "muni-muni" about your big dream.  Grin

Greetings Tanya:

We're glad to see you online and visiting the site. Hope you enjoy your stay.

You're right, if you are to dream why not dream big. After the basic comes the more advance part of the game. Shot selection, playing patterns etc. Yes joining tournaments is definitely a must in your quest. Start with tournaments featuring lower ranked players and work your way up from there.

Hope you'll see your dream through. Keep up the spirit.

Ganun po ba? Kaya pa po ba maging pro player if i start holding a racket tapos po 20 years old na ko? I read some article on Nick Bollettieri site eto pa ang reply nya:

Age to Start Tennis

Q: At what age should children start playing tennis?

Nick: With few exceptions, I believe children under the age of 7 or 8 should concentrate on developing their hand/eye coordination through activities like playing catch, kicking a soccer ball or martial arts. Once they have mastered the art of control, let them play fun games with a tennis racquet. Formal coaching is a good way to make sure young players learn the fundamentals of the game. The most important thing is that the kids view tennis as fun!

Sana po si Tanya yung isa sa maging few exceptions.

nothing is impossible bro, pero normally, pro players started playing tennis at a very young age, so if you're 20 years of age, medyo slim na chances mo specially pag 1st time mo palang hahawak ng raketa, here's the thing, you dont hav to be a pro tennis player to enjoy the game of tennis and also be competitive, dito palang sa pto may ranking na, and maraming members din dito sa malalayong lugar na pwedeng dayuhan, like PENNY HARDAWAY, dumadalaw sya lagi sa calingga apayao (im not so sure sa exact place) to play tennis, mas masarap pa nga club player kesa pro, pero syempre, if u want fame and money, that's another story, for me, im enjoying and loving tennis through pto, vamos! Kung dati I dream very big, they laughed at me "Ikaw ba si Maselguart?" Ngayon makasabay na man lamang sa class B ang goal ko... at ang target date ko after 2 years pa. Siguro by november 2010 kaya ko na. I'm just a weekend warior n nakapalalaro at least 4hrs per week minsan hindi pa makalaro because of schedule conflicts. mas madaming tambay mode sa Perps.  laugh mahirap maging PRO. Pero kung madami kang time to practice, do drills @ least 8hrs a day just like the PROs and sufficient budget to hire a good trainer, pay ball boys, and rent a court kayang kaya. "Think positive wag kang aayaw." espacially kung na sayo mental and physical characteristics of tennis player. sa palagay ko after 6 months of intense training Pwede na. but still experience is the best teacher Grin Dati pangarap ko yung maging pro ngayon pangarap parin HEHEHEHEEHEH  laugh peace po tayo no offense share ko lang ang BIG tennis dreams ko dati.

yes jepoi, just enjoy tennis as much as you possible whether playing socially in a club or playing with prize as a pro! sometimes people get so competitive that they become mentally paralyzed, nawawala ang fun out of the game.

let's have fun!

not unless ikaw si tanya. i am not sure she'd be happy with those brutally honest (somewhat discouraging) words. by the way, post ko lang uli yung isang reply ko sa post ni maselguart noon. i hope this helps:

tanya - prove us wrong and we'll be very happy for you...  Smiley

i think, ideally, to be a tennis pro
- start young
- hire a professional tennis coach (if you can afford one)
- join in a lot of tournaments including international tourneys if possible

if you get a good ranking baka makakuha ka pa ng sponsor. malaking tulong kapag may sponsor.
kasi pag nagsisimula ka, ikaw bahala sa lahat ng gastos. lessons, court fees, travel, entry fees, etc.  siyempre pati coach/trainer ikaw (or your parents) din magbabayad.
if you can get sponsors, makakatulong yan sa gamit (rackets, shoes and tennis apparels).

I really don't think na it's impossible to become a pro at my age... basta you have the heart and very determined ang tao, magagawa niya ang lahat... but at this point i have to set my academic life as my priority kaya mejo nadidiscourage na ko hehe..

anyway, may age limit ba maging pro? kung wala then it's still possible to everybody to be a pro at any age as long as they're strong and determined...

hi tanya. i think po walang age limit ang pagiging pro but i think po as you get older, dun po humihina ang overall performance mo like (skills, physical condition, etc). sana po makakuha ka ng magandang offer from sponsors like sir francis had mentioned. galingan mo po ha!

ok lang yun tanya! thats good! kailangan makatapos ka talaga ng studies, iba yun pag professional (degree holder) ka, after college, pwede kana mag concentrate sa tennis, remember walang imposible, so who knows, diba, IT DOESNT MATTER HOW U STARTED, BUT HOW U FINISHED, K,  Wink

I'm 20 years old and I wish it's never too late to dream big!  Grin
So what's the next step after practicing the basics? Do I join tournaments? Where and WHat? thanks! I hope this could also help those aspiring players out there!  Smiley

eto na nga ang female version ni maselguart na ang pangarap e kahit tumingala sa kalangitan eh di ko makita kasagutan hehe.kidding aside,i think theres nothing wrong of dreaming for sometihng really realy really big hehe.ako nga pangarap ko manalo sa lotto kaya walang humpay taya ko pero i think mananalo muna ako 6/49 bago kayo maging pro ni maselguart hehe.
tanya i think it's much better if you try to hold a racquet first and hit some balls for few months before you declare your dream of becoming  a pro.tennis is a very confusing game kasi eh.if you simply watch it prang sobrang dali lang pero pagnilaro mo na,dun mo mapatunayan na mahirap pala talaga.
try to go to rizal pag may tournament tanya, then tandaan mo mga nag champs dun tapos hanapin mo sila sa wta or atp events yung professional level na..seldom ka lang mkakakita ng success story na nag progress sila sa professional level na after years of working hard and spending almost all thier resouces(so tennis is a gamble, even if you start at a very young age it doent even guarantee success kasi cmpetetion yan at libo2 kayong nagpapakahirap all over the world,eh iilan lang nman magiging successful dyan)eh parang di naging ganun ka successful.
pero wala nga naman masamang mangarap after all lahat tayo may karapatan mangarap pero sana naman yung ka abot abot naman.if your 20 years old already eh di ka na junior nun diretso ka na nga sa professional level agad,at ano yun?natulog ka lang then pg gising mo pro ka na..you have to beat top players of the philippines first before ka mag progress na ganun ka bilis.im not opposing nor criticizing whatever dreams you may have.im just hear to tap your shoulder to wake you up hehe(lam mo na,dreams can be easily converted to nigthmares hehe)dream of becoming a lawyer or a doctor or even a president.mas malaki chance na maabot mo yun tanya hehe.pero sige tanya abangan nalang namin kahihinatnan ng pangarap mo  hehe.sabi mo focus ka sa pag aaral mo,that the wisest decision you ever made kasi yun sigurado ako magiging succesful ka!anong year ka na ba?if you'll add  more years before you'll start playing tennis eh yung pro na pangarap mo eh mag eend up yun sa "pro-pangarap" hehe.cheers everyone.:-)

lastly,i think its time for tanya ang maselgurat to show up and join us.forum kasi to eh you dont know everyones intention here maliban nalang kung nakilala natin sila personally.writing something here is so easy for a purpose of provoking an argument or to get someones attention.im not saying that they dont exist.ofcourse they do!my point here is that, since we dont know them personally, its so easy to write something.halimbawa nga gusto maging pro pero trip trip lang pala hehe.so sana naman makita na natin si maselguart at tanya para naman di sayang mga replies natin dito hehe.
