Nadal was announced together with Safina as seeded number 1 in the tournament on a Wednesday before the withdrawal of Nadal on Friday. I believe the rest of the draw was also finalized on Friday before his withdrawal. With the withdrawal, only Nadal's half of the draw is adjusted so Murray replaced him in that position, del potro replaced murray's position of the draw, and so on so the lowest position is replaced by a lucky loser. I assume that Grand Slam tournaments have guidelines to handle such cases. And that this adjustment is based on that guideline.

That's a very good question.

Since 10 players can not be distributed equally to the 4 backets, some quarters will have 3 top 10 seeds while others will have 2 top 10 seed. And while Nadal is out, we are talking about the numbers 2 through 11 players.

And you've answered Federer since he has Verdasco (7) and Tsonga (9) on his quarter.

I think Murray can also be another answer as he also has Simon ( and Gonzalez (10) on his quarter.

I think the questionable part is the quarter of Djokovic. He should at least have a top 8 opponent on his quarter. Djokovic is lucky as the highest ranking player in his quarter is Cilic (11). Well at least it is good that they did not put Murray in this position otherwise this will pose a very big question for AELTC.

The top 4 players are more fortunate than the rest of the top 10 players as they will only need to meet a top 10 player starting on the QF.
Verdasco (7) may meet Tsonga (9) in the 4th round. Winner may play with Federer in the QF
Simon( may clash with Gonzalez (10) on the 4th round also. Winner may play with Murray in the QF
There goes your 6 of the ten players. The rest may meet on the QF only:
Del Potro (5) vs Roddick (6)
Djokovic (4) vs Cilic (11)

This may answer the question whose quarter has the more top-10 seeds but may not necessarily answer whos quarter has the toughest draw. For me, the "toughest draw" question is subjective and may pose another debate.

para hindi OT: karlovic lost to federer tonight. may have been tough for other players, like tsonga and verdasco failed to even get a break. federer may have made it look easy but i think it's not an easy win for federer. blaster serves and no long rallies. federer got the needed break of serve once each in the first 2 sets. karlovic' serve was not broken before this match.

on-going naman ang laro ni haas and djokovic were haas leads 2 sets to 1. I still remember your comment on haas losing to federer in RG. something like "haas? ewan ko lang..." . Si Federer bihira yan ma upset sa early stages lalo na pag grandslam. Pwede siya matalo sa Masters pero hindi sa grandslam. Semis ni Federer si Haas, tingin ko mas delikado pa si Federer kay Haas ngayon kesa kay Djokovic. Last French Open semis rin sila ni Federer and with Federer loosing the 1st two sets. Haas just might pull it off this time.

for me, i go for the underdogs kc eh. i dunno but i have this principle na pagkinakawawa dun ako kampi hehehe. it all started when i was a kid back then during the NBA rivalry of Lakers and 76ers. My older bro rooted for Lakers which was a solid team that time, kinakawawa lang nila 76ers which is led by Dr J. So yun, i decided to root for 76ers ganun lang! weird no? Even in music when I was in highschool, pag underground punk/newwave ok sa kin pero once it goes mainstream.. pow! ayoko na, pamimigay ko na cassette tape ko. So in tennis today, there's nothing wrong with Federer. He is a great all-around player and a very good guy outside the court pero sikat na kc sya at marami ng fans.. so yun sabi sa inyo weird ako eh.. ngayon ayoko na sa knya hahaha. pero i love to watch how he plays specially when he do his no-look "there's no tomorrow" backhand.
