We have a big chance if Quereshi is not playing!
Yup. We really have a big chance. If all is well on this matchup and New Zealand wins vs Indonesia, we'll hold the event again on September. Yahoo!

Mas malaki nga chance ng Pinoy ngayon lalo ng kung di maglalaro si Qureshi.

Pinoy Davis Cuppers seize 2-0 lead vs Pakistan
07/10/2009 | 10:19 PM
MANILA, Philippines – Fil-Ams Treat Huey and Cecil Mamiit gave the Philippines a 2-0 lead against Pakistan in their Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone Group II second-round tie Friday at the PCA shell court in Manila.
The 23-year-old Huey started the Philippines’ bid on the right foot as he clobbered Aqeel Khan in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2, in the opening singles.
Not to be outdone, veteran Mamiit put up a fiery performance in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 drubbing of Khan’s brother Jalil to put the hosts to within a win from clinching the best-of-three tie and advancing into the third round.
“I played well and went all out for the win. It’s just all hard work," said Huey, ranked 1,017 in the world in singles play and 333rd in doubles. “It’s good that all my balls went down."
“Good start for us," said Mamiit, who also anchored the Filipino Cuppers in their 4-1 disposal of Hong Kong in the first round last March.
The Filipinos gun for the clinching victory in the doubles play on Saturday, where teen sensation Francis Casey Alcantara and Patrick John Tierro are slated to play.
However, given the Pakistanis’ strength in doubles, RP team non-playing captain Chris Cuarto might field in Mamiit and Huey instead to go for the clincher against Jalil Khan and Jibram Muhammadi. Davis Cup rules allow changes in lineup an hour before the match.
“Pakistan is very strong in doubles than in singles and I speculate that I and Treat will still play in Saturday’s doubles," said Mamiit. – GMANews.TV

Dapat sumugal yung coach ngayon... si Francis Casey Alcantara at si Treat Huey ang i field sa doubles since sila yung magiging doubles team ng Pilipinas in the future. Tutal kahit matalo ngayon both singles matches on sunday are winnable kaya almost 100% parin satin ang tie.

Just watch today's reverse singles matches...medyo nakaklungkot lang kung wala talaga yung mga Fil-Ams di pala talaga tayo mananalo. My hats off to Pakistan though for battling gallantly despite knowing they already lost the tie ayaw talaga nilang mag pa shut out. Sayang yung match ni Nino Alcantara he lost from a very winnable position (1 set up and 6-3 up in the second set tiebreak). He made easy errors, wrong choice of shots at matchpoints.
Unfortunately, this has been a pattern in Nino's matches this year. Even sa ITF puro 3 sets ang talo niya usually 1 set up siya pero di niya nacoclose yung match. His coach should really look into this. Yes he is very talented but tennis is not just about talent, physicality, conditioning, strategy and the determination to win is what counts. A foreign coach once told me that tennis is 10% talent, 40% skill and 50% mind and heart and that very few players even in the top echelons of ATP and WTA have that "natural feel" for the game and that what is important is that you develop what you already have.
Well we won that tie that is what matters, however, it would have been better if we finish it off with a bang.
Just my two cents worth.

Masama talaga and coaching ni nino. pag nakita ko yung coach parang alalay lang ang dating. Puro kain at tsismis. Hindi gaya ng ibang foreigner coach na trabaho talaga ang inatupag . May training ba talaga c nino? Ni hindi ko pa nakita yan magdrills o conditioning pag nasa Rizal yan. Puro palo lang kay Toto at Lito yan sa cagayan. Swerte lang cya dahil mabait ang sponsor nya at magaling ang mga doubles partner nya.

In regards to Nino and PJ, 6 match points winaldas ni Nino "ala Roddick 6-3 in the tiebreak" in a losing effort parang kulang sa kill because most of the time leading si Nino... but to be fair sobrang gulang na nung kalaban ni Nino compared to him. I just hope it would be a good experience for Nino. Si PJ straight sets talo din.

Hindi tayo mananalo kung walang Fil-ams....I feel sorry for that before Mamiit came to the picture we're in the group III level. We hired Mamiit and Taino to bring back to group I level and we tried last year but due to age(matanda na sila)It's very tough for them to compete in that level. If It's 10 years back during the prime of Mamiit even sa world group qualifying but he was too expensive at that time.
The Problem of our Tennis is we don't have transition program. Nobody wants to work hard they just wants the finish products.

Hopefully, time will come that the home grown talents will have what it take to win such important tournament. It's hard to gamble especially when you are up against great players on the other side of the net.
Winning for the country was the main goal and YOU DID IT AGAIN! Congrats again to Team Philippines for a job well done!

I don't see it in the forseeable future in the Philippines, unless that prodigous kid comes from a well endowed family. Kahit talented yung bata, if he's sponsored by the government, wala pa rin. It has to come from the private sector and that kid would be starting and exposed internationally at a young age. ITF and USTA studies said that it costs about $30000 and up annually to produce top level player and that is still not a guarantee. Reality bite Hopefully, time will come that the home grown talents will have what it take to win such important tournament. It's hard to gamble especially when you are up against great players on the other side of the net.
Winning for the country was the main goal and YOU DID IT AGAIN! Congrats again to Team Philippines for a job well done!

I've heard from a very reliable source and a good friend from the tennis circuit that the government and some private sectors joined their efforts to make it happen. I'm sure that they know what to do and their taking it one step at a time. Rumors said that there is US$30,000+ for Nino's annual budget. Let's hope for the best interest of the country. It might be a make or break but there will always be another chance.
