True, anything compared to barricade is light. But when you get barricade, you are after the durability and support.

True, the lightest among barricades. A Must for hard courts but for shell, you can settle for lighter less durable shoe. Your shoes is not designed to last forever. Even if the sole is still thick, your shoe will become too soft and lack support.

I buy a new pair of tennis shoes every year, but I still observed that Nikes soles wear out faster than my wilsons.

How long should we keep our tennis shoes before we change it? Is there a written rule on how ofter one should change his shoes, like strings on our rackets?
Here are some factors to consider:
1. Your weight
2. Style of play
3. How often you play

Competition players would normally need more support, thus have to change shoes more often. Recreational players, depende sa budget. Its a good idea to keep more than 1 shoes, para may time bumalik sa form yung uppers, specially if you play everyday.

I have two pairs na pinag papalitpalit.

So there's no written rule or formula to compute how ofter should one change his tennis shoes. Observation lang?

Thanks

Sa tingin ko 1 yr is enough for 5k worth pair of shoes.

Kung tig-500 pesos lang yung sapatos, pede ka bumili ng bago kahit once a month.. Grin Grin Grin

On the average, 3 to 6 months.

The outsole is the most visible indicator of wear.  Most players don’t consider a shoe worn-out until the outsole is shot.  Depending on the player, this may or may not be true.  Most pros get new shoes at least every month or less, regardless. There are two other parts of the shoe that wear out, but the wear is virtually invisible.  Players should also pay more attention to these.

First, the midsole.  This is the layer of material between the uppers and the outsole that acts as the shock-absorbing part of the shoe.  The midsole absorbs at least 3x to 4x of the player’s body weight, even more when the player elevates on certain strokes.  The midsole is basically a closed-cell foam material.  The density, which determines the “hardness” of the material varies according to the shoe’s design intent.  While lower density is softer and thus more comfortable, it is less stable and it breaks down faster.  Higher density is more stable and withstands the impact of body weight longer but it gives a “harder ride”.  While the outsole on a year-old shoe may still look okay, chances are that the midsole is no longer resilient as it used to be.  Hence, it’s no longer absorbing shock the way it should be and the support is no longer there.  This is what renald is alluding to above.  This increases the risk of injuries such as shin splints, leg cramps, sprain, joint inflammation, knee pain, back pain, etc.  Bogus “shock absorbing” material embedded in the midsole such as “Air” is nothing more than a marketing gimmick.  These thingamajigs are merely material substitutes and functions virtually the same way as the material it replaces.

Second, the uppers. Nothing beats the performance qualities of real full-grain leather.  Unfortunately, it’s all synthetic now.  It’s a fact that synthetics are lighter than leather, but I think the primary reason for it being the material of choice nowadays is that synthetics are easier to work with when it comes to colors, designs, textures, appliqué, etc.  No matter how high-tech the material supposedly is, it’s not as resilient as full-grain leather and it’s more susceptible to humidity, temperature and UV deterioration.  So, even though the upper may still look good, it may no longer give the player the lateral support that it’s supposed to.  Some shoes have lateral straps that’s supposed to help mitigate this issue (like the Barricade straps that also serve as the Adidas logo), but it doesn’t solve the problem.

As renald says, weight, style of play and frequency of play are wear factors.  Playing surface is also a factor.  There is also one factor, probably the greatest factor of all, that no one knows about.  It’s called product cycle.  Manufacturers are not going to sell you bulletproof shoes that are good for 10 years.

Nike Air max Breathe free 2 ako dati tapus ngaun eh Nike Air Zoom court GT.
Very comfortable and fashionable ang breathe series.
Nice support din and very light.
I like everything about it pero mahirap lang labhan kya i dont reccomend it. Grin

From original price na 5k eh 3k below nalang ata presyo ni2 ngaun.

Thanks and it's nice to hear from you again Rick.

Yes, I've noticed this with my wilsons. Our tennis court is near a basketball court and since I'm too lazy to change shoes, I just play basketball with my tennis shoes. After only a few games you can notice that the once firm midsole is no longer as stable as it used to. The constant pounding and shock that it receives from the frequent jumping needed for basketball has taken its toll. I guess this is the reason why specific shoes are made for different sports.

sabi sakin ng isang tennis coach when u buy tennis shoes kailangan gumsole, is this true? and what is a gumsole? sabi naman sa chris most of the wilson tennis shoes have gumsoles, how can u tell if it has a gumsole or not? sobrang lambot po ba ng ilalim? thnx!

Pure gum rubber is natural rubber.  Gum sole is usually tan or light brown in color and is used for indoor sports normally played on hardwood such as racquetball, squash, volleyball, badminton.  Gum sole, because it is naturally elastic and grippy, is preferred for traction on smooth hardwood surfaces.  Skateboarding shoes also benefit from this quality.  Although basketball is normally played on hardwood, rubber composite is used instead of gum because the nature of the sport demands a material that is denser and more stable to withstand the size and impact weight of the players running, jumping and quick direction changes.

Putting gum soles on tennis shoes doesn’t make sense.  While gum soles offer good traction, the soft rubber wears out very quickly and is not very durable.  Composite rubber is used for tennis shoes to make it more suitable for outdoor play, and the composition can be varied for specific performance criteria such as abrasion resistance, density, traction, etc.  Carbon black, the same material Wilson calls Karophite used in its rackets, is a material additive to athletic shoe outsoles that gives composite rubber increased tensile strength and abrasion resistance.

I don’t know why a tennis coach would say you have to buy tennis shoes with gum sole, or a guy at Chris would say that most Wilson tennis shoes have gum soles.  I’d be interested to know what their rationale is, and where they got the info that most tennis shoes have gum soles.

Hi mentosss53, I,ve tried a lot of shoes already and personally I like the Nike Air Breathe Cage II, parang kapit na kapit sa floor and ang sarap itakbo lalo na sa hard court. The only problem is the sole cracks sa middle part after few months of use. Here are some of my shoes, medyo naging addict ako, he he.

Almost 6k pa last year, nung gamit pa ni Nadal sa Wimbledon. Usually 6 months ang outsole durabilty guarantee. Pero you can still use it kahit may crack sa ilalim, the feel is the same pa naman kahit may crack.

You can find the Paseo Mall sa Laguna, yung way going to Tagaytay. From SLEX, take Sta. Rosa exit. Tapos you can see the Mall sa left side. I'm not sure kung may mga sizes pa.

hahaha all the while i thought na lalake ka churi churi, pero same parin naman sa adidas eh, barricade v is still the best you might want to try cc pulse. sa nike may mga citycourt at air ace na pang babae wala pa kong nakikitang ibang style.

mystify pa pala meron din ako nakita.
