Post your very brief tennis tips here! Just make it quick that others can grasp and keep in mind. Minsan may taong tamad magbasa pag sobrang haba na ng text  Grin Cheesy Wink

I'll start...

ANYTHING BUT NET
For many players, the net is a bigger enemy than their opponents. Remember that its better to miss long or wide rather than hit into the net. Think about it this way: You always hit the ball hard enough to get it past the net. If you clear it, you have a large box (39 feet long X 27 feet wide) as your target. Play the percentages and learn to hit the ball a safe distance above the net and you'll make fewer errors

DONT EASE UP YOUR SWING
One of the major pitfalls of intentionally hitting shorter in the court is that you often try to guide the ball. It definitely takes more finesse than it does to hit the ball close to the baseline, but you still need a full swing. Otherwise your shots will float and sit up for your opponents, or, worse yet, not even clear the net. Try to put more spin on the ball with a flatter trajectory. Watch a player like Roger Federer (a master of this tactic) hit a short, slice backhand, and you’ll notice that his racquet doesn’t slow down very much. Instead he cuts the ball more severely, giving it a tighter spin and lower net clearance

Three R's :

READY Always be in ready position. This is to anticipate what your opponent will make.

READ  Determine what shot will the opponent make (cross-court,down the line, lob, etc.)

REACT  Once you know what the opponent's shot is, it's time to make your move and make your return shot.

FEEL THE HEAT

You cant play good tennis w/o good footwork, and the key to good footwork is to keep your feet moving on the court. the best way to remember this is to pretend that you're on hot pavement. As soon as your feet touch the ground, you have to lift them up, over and over again.

Move your feet - and keep the heat on your opponent

GET THE BENDS

When you need to get your body down to make a particularly low volley, spread your stance and get even lower by saying to yourself "Bend your back knee" Not only this will ensure that your weight isnt too far over your front knee but supporting your legs will help you get lower for the shot.

You'll be amazed at how dipping your back knee raises the level of your net game!

Shot anticipation one is by looking at your opponents racket. you will see where the face of the shot he will choose.

Common Problems encountered by Beginners

1. Too much information
2. Not realistic about tennis demands
3. Not knowing what is the most important part of good tennis – the fun and feel!
4. they are too much concerned with technique and »proper« form (mostly influenced by coaches)
5. they beat themselves up because they have unrealistic expectations – which slows their learning impatience

Take your time and absorb each and every tennis tip for a beginner and apply the slight change of thinking to your game. It will help you learn at the fastest possible rate.

FUN, FUN, FUN!

That's the most important criteria. All this attributes wouldn't mean anything if the beginner looses interest midway through his training. He should first learn to love the game and enjoy it, afterwards he'll want to be really be good in tennis and start to hone up on his basics so he can progress.

VOLLEY TIPS: Don't swing!

We just love to hit winners, especially at net. The harder the ball comes, the bigger the swing we take and the farther the ball goes out. Keep in mind that the closer you are to net, the shorter your backswing should be. The volley is not really a "swing" at all, but rather a controlled "punch". When you're at net, you don't have enough reaction time to take a big swing, so keep it to a short forward motion.

In reality, sa competetive tennis naipapasok p b tong Fun? Fun cguro if you know you are a level ahead with your opponent and you are sure you will win the match. Nakikita ko lng to kay Federer pag si Arod kalaban nya e hehe.

For me I feel happy when I play with my friends knowing that it will be a fun game from the start and the outcome of the game is not important.

Cheesy

Don't try too hard

Whatever you do, even when your coach tells you to do something it's not an order. What they are really saying is give it all your best and we'll see what happens. Even when you miss you get feedback as to what happened. How did that feel, how does my racquet face determine where the ball goes, …

We are so used to trying harder when things don't go our way. In tennis it usually doesn’t work. When things don't work, try less. Soften your grip and your muscles and hit average shots for a while. Do not try to hid good all the time (while learning new technique!)

FOR PLAYERS WITH WEAKER BACKHAND

Another reason why our backhand shot isn't working is because we have developed a certain attitude towards it. May we say that it is negative? Yes!
When we play fewer backhand shots we quickly fall behind our forehand(inside out). We start losing trust in our backhand and eventually we treat it like some bad part of our tennis game.

Play backhands! Do not avoid backhand because it's weaker at the moment. Start with mini tennis and keep hitting backhands. Just give our backhand enough repetitions and wait until it improves

RELAX

Loosen up.  Players have their own pre-game rituals before a match to ease the tension.  Some like to spend their time alone to visualize their game plan, others listen to music on their Ipod.  Leyton Hewitt likes to watch the movie Rocky because it inspires him to come out 100% in every match.  The problem is he got KNOCKED OUT by Nadal in the French Open  Cheesy

COMPLETE FOLLOW THROUGH

This is the common error of a lot of club players.  Majority of them "muscle" their shots that is why the flight of the ball is always upward or no direction at all.  In short, their shot is "to whom it may concern."

GO SLOW

One of the biggest mistakes a player can make is rushing between points.  Take the time to recover and think about how the match is going.  It will help you stay calm and in control.

Find stable tennis shoes that have good lateral support, If your wheels are hindered how can you get to the ball to hit it?  Start with the most important thing in tennis... Footwork.  If you can't get to the ball how are you going to hit it or do your stroke properly?

SHOT TRAJECTORY

OFF FOREHAND- DELAY YOUR NATURAL REACTION by 1 SECOND
CROSS COURT-  PULL THE SHOT EARLIER BY A SECOND

GOOD ANTICIPATION AND REACTION IS THE MOST VITAL PART OF TENNIS.

This one is very true.

Footwork and consistency

I admire Murray and Federer for their footwork. It takes time to develop consistency and rallying is one good way- forehand to forehand, BH to BH, Cross court, Down the line... This also improves your shot tolerance and endurance.
