what satisfaction would those people that would lie about their playing level get? its just plain stupid. if someone would organize a class c/b tournament without cash prize, lying about your level would seem pointless. its not about the prize.. its about the experience.
My computer's dictionary says: "Sandbagging - deliberately underperform in a race or competition to gain an unfair advantage." Sandbagging has always a big problem in amateur/recreational tournaments divided by skill level. When I was playing a lot of badminton some years ago, everyone complained that some players would deliberately play badly during the "leveling" session so they would be put in a lower class. Come tournament day they can then unleash their real game and demolish everyone. I hear this also happens in golf a lot. All they want is to win and the trophy, even if it is in a lower class. We had a member here who once refused to join a club tournament because he said the players put in his class (B) were too strong. So he tried to set up his own tournament called the "tutoong class B tournament". Nobody joined (hehehehe) People like this are just desperate for accolades and scared of losing. |
