Share ko lang guys! You hit awesome shots during practice, but mess up those very same shots during a match. What is going on? Why does this happen? A match means that there is a specific desire result involved. This can cause nervousness. When something is on the "record" our competitive nature kicks in and adrenaline rises. If we aren't 100% confident in our shots, concerned about our opponent, or are focused too much on the final score, then are muscles can tighten up. These factors can lead to missed shots. When you hit great shots during practice, stop and take a moment to record this information in your mind. Think about how loose and strong your muscles felt during the shot. Focus on your footwork. Connect a positive experience with the shot. Spend a few moments each day to visualize hitting great tennis shots. Remember how it felt to hit those shots successfully during practice. Realize that nerves will play a factor during match play. If you miss your backhand, don't automatically assume that you cant hit any more good backhands during the match. Take time between points to fiddle with your racquet strings. Breathe deeply and remember how it felt to successfully hit that shot in practice. Removed the missed shot from your mind by focusing on the upcoming point. SOURCE: www.WikiAnswers.com

Para sakin maraming difference between rally/practice and actual games na. Sa rallies you can check your strokes and be relax because you know that the ball will always be coming at you. Sa actual game na you need to be at the right position at the right time to hit effective stroke. Marami k rin knoconsider like angles, opponent, your emotions etc.

i always tell my instructor to place the ball in different directions just like in actual games when we do rallies. in this way di masyado boring ang rally for both of us. i am pretty sure some of the PTO players here do the same

This is my biggest weakness. It's the mental suggestion of falling that keeps us from doing it, sa tennis naman it's the mental suggestion of losing or committing errors that's our stumbling block. This is what we need to learn to cope with, the very thing that's absent during practice. So it is important to be exposed to competitive matches.

I think the key really is in our MENTALITY...we play poorly especially during tournaments because we put too much pressure on ourselves to win. The secret is...to FORGET WINNING! Take the pressure off yourself by mentally deciding to not win a point, instead, decide to PLAY WELL any point to the best of your current level of play. Our attitude should be, "I would rather play this point/match well than win it." Or, "My opponent can have this point/match, I would rather play well." If you can succeed in having this attitude, you will free yourself to play just like you do in practice. And you will find yourself improving even more. AND, winning will be more likely also. For if you seek after wins, you will not find it, but if you forsake winning and focus on your game, you will find it. Grabe parang totoo ah.

YES very true!!!! kaya nagtataka ako minsan sa mga ka-level ko or a notch above me na pag nakakagawa kapalpakan partners nila sinisisi nila masyado. masyado silang competetive e nasa ibaba pa level nila. Every match para sakin is a practice thats my mentality.

Just continue to join tournaments. Soon playing before a crowd will be second nature to you and you'll no longer feel that nervous. Btw, it's ok to be nervous, even the pros feel this way. Just learn to control it so it won't affect your game that much.
