My name is Elmer A. Dolera from the United States.  I am the founder of The Goodwill Tennis Tours, a program of free world-class tennis instruction for the people of the Philippines, especially tennis instructors, children and advanced juniors.  I am planning my fifth tennis program for the Philippines since November of 1999 and request your help to acquire sponsorship for our airfare so we can return sometime between the beginning of September and mid-December 2006.  We will be in the Philippines four weeks - one week per location.  If you know of individuals, organizations and/or companies who may be interested in sponsoring our airfare, please let me know.  The tennis professionals and myself are volunteering our time and expertise to the people of the Philippines.  In addition, Wilson Sporting Goods will again provide the tennis supplies such as balls and tennis rackets to implement the tennis program.

My request for sponsorship is for our airfare only because I already have locations in Manila, Makati, Los Banos, Cebu City and Davao City who have expressed their interest to host my tennis program, making possible participation throughout the Philippines.  I can also use past tennis program sites all to willing to host my tennis program.  The following is the case for my tennis program in the Philippines, what we will be doing for my next Philippine tennis program and the qualifications of the tennis professionals accompanying me.

Goodwill Tennis Tours Details - Philippines

The Philippines does not have a systemic program of on-going tennis instruction for tennis trainers.  The Goodwill Tennis Tours will be bringing to the Philippines the internationally recognized tennis programs of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). The Philippines depends much on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) to receive on going tennis education, especially for tennis trainers, but the reality is that these tennis programs often bypass the Philippines.  Both the ITF and PTR did not do any tennis programs in the Philippines in 2004 and 2005 and will not be doing tennis programs in the Philippines in 2006.  As far as the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) is concerned, if you go to their website and their Workshops and Conferences link, their last update was for 2001. (Update – the PHILTA website has been down for many months). The result is a stagnation of the education and the growth of numbers of tennis trainers (certified or not) in the Philippines and the dissemination of the most modern techniques in tennis instruction. Since November of 1999, we have been the Philippines on a regular basis and have gone to locations often neglected by the aforementioned tennis organizations.  We can go to the Philippines every year. More and more qualified tennis instructors will translate into a quantum leap in the development of Philippine tennis.

For my next Philippine tennis program, we will continue the work we began in 2004 to teach people how to teach tennis by doing the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Recreational Coaches Workshop (www.nrpa.org/content/default.aspx?documentId=1714 and http://www.usta.com/coaches/custom.sps?iType=12362&icustompageid=17306).  The USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop is endorsed by the USPTA, PTR and the U.S. National Recreation and Park Association and is designed for tennis instructors, high school and college players, physical education teachers, parents who want to teach to their children, seniors who want to teach to others, in essence all those who want to teach tennis to children up to intermediate players, using methods to create a positive experience for those with their initial contact with a tennis instructor so that they will continue playing the game of tennis.  In addition we will be doing tennis clinics for children and advanced players, especially juniors.

The Goodwill Tennis Tours has the highest qualified tennis professionals teaching tennis.  For my Philippines tennis program, my associate USPTA and PTR certified Pro 1 tennis professional Ted Sayrahder (http://www.forestcrest.com/Default.aspx?tabid=394), will accompany me along with USPTA Pro 1 Kevin Young.  Ted Sayrahder is also a USPTA Tester and is qualified to certify those who want to become certified USPTA tennis professionals.  He is also a USTA High Performance Coach (http://www.highperformance.usta.com/content/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=112842&itype=7417&icategoryid=615). Please click the link on the left explaining the USTA High Performance Coaching Program and how a tennis professional qualifies.  In addition, Ted Sayrahder in 2003 was awarded both USPTA Pro of the Year and USPTA Tester of the Year for the Pacific Northwest Division.

USPTA Pro 1 Kevin Young until recently was a vice-president of the USPTA Pacific Northwest Division and a member of the National USPTA National Executive Committee and is currently working towards his USPTA Master Professional Certification.  In 1997 he was awarded USPTA Pro of the Year for the Pacific Northwest Division.  He recently participated as a tennis instructor for Arthur Ashe Kids Day at the 2005 U.S. Open.  In addition, Kevin Young has been awarded the following:
•   USPTA/USTA Partnership Award in 1997 for the Pacific Northwest Division
•   Received the USPTA's National Industry Excellence Award at the National USPTA convention in 1998 for outstanding USA Tennis community programming in our area.
•   In 2000, was one of 4 USA Tennis Community Coordinators in the Nation that received the USTA Community Recognition Award from USTA National; and awarded a trip to the 2000 US Open in NY.
•   His facility, the Vancouver Tennis & Racquetball Center was named the USTA/PNW Organization of the Year in 2000.
•   His organization received the "Outstanding Adult Tournament Event of the Year" in 2002 for our NTRP Grand Slam tournament series.
•   USPTA/Pacific Northwest Facility Manager of the year in 2002 and 2004.

Both Ted Sayrahder and Kevin Young are also USTA National Trainers for the USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop.  We encourage all the aforementioned groups to attend the USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop so they can go to the grassroots and teach the great game of tennis.  All are welcome to participate and for those at the conclusion of the USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop who want to be certified as USTA Developmental Coaches, we can do so for a slight fee.  In 2004, we certified thirty-seven Filipinos as USPTA Developmental Coaches.  My tennis program is evergreen because of the yearning of Filipinos for  world-class tennis instruction and because we can continue on an annual basis the aforementioned programs and later certify those who desire to become certified in the higher levels of USPTA tennis certification - Pro 3, Pro 2 and Pro 1. We want many throughout the Philippines to participate.  Ted Sayrahder and Kevin Young are expert teaching to large groups.  To view photos of Ted Sayrahder and Kevin Young and read information about them, please go to the web address http://www.usta.com/news/fullstory.sps?iType=8236&inewsid=338409.

For more information about my tennis program, please go to the web addresses http://edolera.photosite.com/ and http://photos.yahoo.com/edolera@sbcglobal.net, to view pictures and read articles about my tennis program.  I enthusiastically look forward hearing from my tennis friends in the Philippines

Promoting friendship and goodwill using the world game of tennis,

Elmer A. Dolera

UPDATE - Since I posted this message, the U.S. Embassy has decided to sponsor our airfare.  For confirmation, please contact Mr. Stephen Ashby, Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer.  Therefore, my tennis program is definitely going to the Philippines in November of 2006.  I am presently reconnecting with those locations that have expressed their interest to host my tennis program - Ateneo de Manila, Shangri-La Makati, Los Banos, Cebu City and Davao City.

If Ateneo de Manila, Shangri-La Makati and/or Los Banos change their mind and decide not to host my tennis program, I am asking the help of the members of Philippine Tennis Online to inform me of locations we can use for my Manila/Luzon area tennis program. I will choose two sites.  Please contact me at edolera@hotmail.com with that information.  We are a free program and request that our accommodations and meals be taken care of in return for my tennis program.  I enthusiastically look forward hearing from members.

Hi Elmer!  Thanks for your concern for Philippine Tennis.  I am not sure if you have approached Philta about this.  I can provide you their contact details and will inquire about possible sponsors whom you may contact directly.  Please accept our best wishes on this noble undertaking.  Mabuhay ka!!!!

lvl - please don't forget to let us know when this happens. I am interested to attend this world-class tennis instruction as well.

There are 2 posts in this topic written in tagalog. I'll try to translate them in english for Elmer (edolera).

sana ma tyemphuan ko sa vacation yun sked tennis clinic na yan, para madala ko rin anak ko for tennis lessons
IN ENGLISH: I wish my vacation is in time with this tennis clinic so I can bring my kid for the tennis lessons.
(pedrolabasulo is currently out of the country)

kung mayaman na sana ako, pede akong mag sponsor, hehehehe...

kaso nd eh, empleado pa rin lang ako...
IN ENGLISH: If only i'm wealthy, I may sponsor, hehehe...
but I'm not, I'm still an employee...

I've read from a post of Mr. Elmer Dolera that this program will be in November of this year. This will be a 4-week tennis program.

I believe he is already in contact with several tennis clubs and Citadella is one.

Mr. Dolera also need to get in touch with Mr. Victor S. de Padua to organize a Los Baños Tennis Program. So if anyone here knows Mr. de Padua please relay the message.

rucker - you also play in los baños, right? Do you happen to know Mr. de Padua?

This is a good opportunity for Filipino Tennis players to learn more about Tennis in American way. I hope somebody will accomodate this opportunity if I'm there at that time I can handle it. I am also doing that everytime I go home to my hometown in mindanao. Thank you Mr. Elmer for a wonderful undertaking. Mabuhay ka!

Hi SLP888!  Welcome to PTO!  Where are you at right now?  If you will be in Metro Manila, madaming mga taga PTO ang interested to learn tennis i.e. Maui, Oliver, Admin Jong, etc.

Elmer A. Dolera here of The Goodwill Tennis Tours.  I have three confirmed locations - Up Diliman, Naga City and Davao City.  I am presently awaiting to hear from Cagayan de Oro as the fourth location.  In the event I do not get Cagayan de Oro, I am looking at Imus City, Lucena City and Cabanatuan City.  Cagayan de Oro told me that they would make a decision by 10-24-06.  Shortly after that date, I will now our firm schedule.  If any of you know of another location I am open for suggestions. If so, I need to know now.   Site must be able to have many participants.

This is for sure, our first tennis program will be at UP Diliman.  Thursday November 16th we will have an evening program to introduce ourselves, explain the tennis program and have a question and answer session.  The UP Diliman tennis program on the courts will be on Friday November 17, Saturday November 18th and Sunday November 19th.  All are invited and participants should attend from the first session as all three sessions will be different.   We will start on time and will not go over material we have already covered.  For more info regarding the UP Diliman program contact UP Tennis Coach Ariel Juliano.  I will be posting the final itinerary at http://edolera.photosite.com/   shortly.

HI SLP!  yes, tennis has been the family's constant weekend activity.  Yes, my daughter is an age grouper.  She got to #9 sa 12 and under.  She's now playing in the 14 and 16 and under kaya start na naman sya sa ilalim.  Nabanggit ko na kay Lord and Bong about you.  PM me your details 'coz madami daw kayo kasali before.  Paguwi mo sa Dec. drop by ka sa Citadella.

This is Elmer A. Dolera of The Goodwill Tennis Tours - U.S.A.  We just concluded a highly successful tennis program in the Philippines during February/March of 2007.  My fifth since 1999.  The tennis  program was twofold - the tennis professionals taught the USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop (RCW) (http://www.usta.com/coaches/custom.sps?iType=12362&icustompageid=17306) and did  tennis clinics for children and advanced players, especially juniors.

I was accompanied by my associate USPTA P1 Ted Sayrahder, who is a USPTA Tester and USTA High Performance Coach, USPTA P1 Kevin Young, who is a USTA Master RCW National Trainer and High Performance Coach and  PTR Professional Joy Riley who is a USTA RCW National Trainer.  We went to Gingoog, Butuan, Camiguin, Malaybalay, Davao City, Cebu City and Naga City.

We are planning to return to the Philippines in 2008 to certify those USPTA Developmental Coaches we certified, who choose to be certified to the higher levels of USPTA certification - P3 up to P1.  In addition, we will again teach the USTA RCW and certify those upon conclusion of the program who want to be certified as USPTA Developmental Coaches, the entry level of USPTA certification.

The USPTA has given us discounted pricing for those who want to be certified as USPTA Developmental Coaches and for those who want to be certified to the higher levels of USPTA certification.

The tennis professionals and myself are volunteering our time and expertise to the people of the Philippines.  We have a proven track record of success.

We are implementing our "5555" program of certifying fifty Filipinos as USPTA tennis professionals, five hundred Filipinos as USPTA Developmental Coaches, five thousand Filipino children to play the game of tennis, all within five years.  I have met personally with Philippine tennis patrons such as Jean Henri Lhuillier and Romeo Chan who are enthusiastic about my tennis program.  The Philippines now has an ongoing program of world-class tennis instruction, especially for tennis instructors.

Elmer A. Dolera of The Goodwill Tennis Tours.  If anyone can help me get in contact with Governor Mike Keon in Llocos Norte and Governor Espino of Pangasinan, I would appreciate it.  I want to do tennis clinics in those provinces in addition to the three I am already scheduling for The Rizal Sports Complex in Manila, Casino Espanol de Cebu in Cebu City and Cagayan de Oro.  I know you can understand the tremendous effort to organize my program for the Philippines and I need your help.

Go to our Laoag or Rizal Program.  Participation is free but if you want to be certified as a USPTA Developmental Coach at the end of the RCW, the fee is around $ 60.00.  There are annual dues also of around $ 112.00.

It's too late for me to join the manila program. Laoag is 5hoursdrive from Pangasinan. If I'd take the bus it'd be 6 hours. I'll try to make the laoag though as it is the best option left for me.

Yes you need your racket and playing clothes since the RCW is more than 90% on court and hands on. The only non playing part is when they explain something mostly at the end. You will be hitting with each other a lot, mostly with foam balls and low pressure balls, if its the same as last year's.
