Hey Guys, just had an idea... how about if we create our own PTO ranking?  We could start with 2 groups: Singles for Guys and Girls.  The PTO ranking will be based on a challenge system.  We could have a list of players who want to participate and any guys on the list can challenge each other.  The winner of the challenge earns a point.  Siempre, we still need to come up with the specific rules.  This is a good way to meet other members and to encourage active participation on PTO's members.  What you guys think?

A challenge ladder system is good for groups that don't regularly meet. I don't know how to set it up online, but all it takes is for people to arrange matches with eachother, and to report it to the board. It will also take  a couple of persons to manage. There are even online international ladders for people who travel a lot. You can book a match with someone in the country you are scheduled to visit.

We ran this in my club some years ago during rainy season when play was intermittent and we couldn't hold a regular tournament. It ran about 3 quarters of a year, until the ladder administrator moved to the province.

Yup, ganyan rin iniisip ko Makinao.  Mukhang madali lang i-organize kasi silang dalwa lang ung bahala.  I think pde na natin i-start eto after we got the permission of the administrators of PTO para payagan tayo i-publish ung rules and results dito. Don't worry guys... you don't have to be an advance player para sumali kahit beginner pde.  At least if you join you'll get an idea on your skill level and what you need to improve on.  So huwag kayong mahihiya hehehe so SINONG GUSTO SUMALI???

Hi all!  Excellent idea Ace!  Let us know the mechanics/rules/venues.   Maganda 'to as we can have small group meets.  Sana later on, we can have more groups like 40 and above group, doubles group, etc. Feel free to comment or to make suggestions:

Philippine Tennis Online Ranking

The Philippine Tennis Online Ranking is established to promote friendly competition among its members.  It will assist its members in improving their tennis skills through competition.

The Philippine Tennis Online Ranking will be based on points earned on the following:
1.   Philippine Tennis Online Challenge System
2.   Philippine Tennis Online Tournaments

Philippine Tennis Online Ranking Mechanics:
1.   A player who wins a challenge or a round in a tournament earns 10 points.
2.   A player who losses a challenge or a round in a tournament earns 3 points.
3.   A player who defaults a challenge or tournament earns no point and the winner of the defaulted game earns 9 points.
4.   There will be a ranking for Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles.  Ranking will be released every Monday on the PTO website.
5.   Points will expire after 1 year from the date it was earned.  Ranking will be based on accumulated valid points (i.e., unexpired points).
6.   Additional bonus points will be earned if a player beats a top 10 player:
o   10 points – player beats the top 1 player
o   9 points – player beats the top 2 player
o   8 points – player beats the top 3 player
o   7 points – player beats the top 4 player
o   6 points – player beats the top 5 player
o   5 points – player beats the top 6 player
o   4 points – player beats the top 7 player
o   3 points – player beats the top 8 player
o   2 points – player beats the top 9 player
o   1 points – player beats the top 10 player

Philippine Tennis Online Challenge System Rules:

1.   Philippines Tennis Online members can challenge any players that are ranked or in the challengers list.

2.   The challenger should send a message to the PTO Moderator to formally request the challenge.  The message should contain the name of challenged member and date, time and location of the match.  The challenger should NOT directly send a message to the person being challenged because we want to record the challenges.

3.   PTO will inform the challenged member regarding the challenge.  If the challenged member is not available on the date, time and location then he/she can suggest an alternative.  If both of them cannot agree then the challenge is defaulted.

4.   Players cannot challenge members he/she has defeated for the past month.

5.   The winner of the challenge is responsible for reporting the results to PTO Moderator by sending a message with the following information: date of the match, winner’s name, loser’s name and the match score.

6.   Member who rejects challenges continuously three times will be penalize with -5 points.

7.   Both players will share in the cost of tennis court and ball boys.

Philippine Tennis Online Tournament Rules:

1.   Any members of Philippine Tennis Online can organize a tournament with any format (e.g., round-robin, pyramid, etc.).

2.   The tournament should be announced in the website to allow PTO members to register on the tournament.

3.   Each match/round will earn points towards PTO ranking.

Yup continuous lang eto.  Gawa na lang tayo ng post that contains the list of participants in the challenge system.  What do you mean by level of play.  I guess kung number of sets ang pinaguusapan depende sa players ng challenge or sa tournament kung gusto nila one set or best of 2 out of 3 sets.

For now iniisip ko para simple, let's maintain one ranking for singles men, singles women and doubles.  At first there might be mismatches in terms of skill levels.  Pero eventually the ranking will sorts itself into order.  For example yung mga advanced players nasa top 10, intermediate ung 11-20 tapos ung beginners 21-30.   Grin

Oo nga noh wala pa tayong date kung kelan natin i-implement eto.  I-release and implement natin on March 19.  Mukhang ok na naman sa Moderator (LVL307)  Grin

Nga pala with regards to doubles, hindi ko alam kung ilang category gagawin natin.  Marami kasing combination eh... men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles and senior doubles heheh.... Ang concern ko lang is bka masyado maraming category tapos konti lang ung participant so for now let's try one ranking for doubles.  Tapos tingnan natin kung magwo work tska kung may mga issues tapos ayusin n lang natin in the future.

ace, may nabasa ko sa tennisengine... baka pwede natin iapply... yung magkaron muna ng 3 matches each ang players to determine the skill level... para simula pa lang, wala ng mismatch... yung 3 matches na yun, di pa kasama sa ranking talga... oh well... just a thought...

Hi all!  We can actually start the games anytime once ok na sa inyo yung rules.  As regards playing several games to judge the skill level of players, we can make use of the games during the eb's.  Let us just appoint someone who will make the evaluation.  Kung di lang busy sina SLP, Coco, etc, they will be in the best position to do that.  Meantime, let us just appoint about 2 players who will do the evaluation.  OK ba sa inyo to use the NTRP rating system as posted here?   If you want, we can have an EB exclusive for PTO and everyone plays.  Sundays after 10:00 a.m., maluwag ang Citadella or if you have other venues where most if not all of PTO players can come, let's have it there.  Bro rucker, kelan na EB?  Let the games begin...!!!

ok yun... so kelan ang eb?

magandang suggestion yan ahldrin...medyo weird nga kung maglalaban ung beginner and advanced.

Sir LVL307, ok ako using the NTRP rating.  Just wondering Sir LVL307 if we can store the ratings for each player here in the profile section.  So merong rating for forehand, backhand, serve, etc... then over-all rating.  Para meron tayong record for each player tska additional information for each players.

I-refine n lng natin in case may issues tayong makita.  For the challenge system kelangan lang natin ng admintrator who will regularly check the challenges, inform the players if he/she has been challenged, etc.  Kelangan rin natin ng volunteer ng magu-update ng rankings... although out of the country ako ngayon pde ako kasi regular naman ako ngche-check ng website.... paki-PM na lang sakin ung results.

Going back to the challenge list... i-scrap na lang natin eto.

Ung challenge results mukhang kelangan natin gumawa ng bagong section or sub-section.  Tapos ung ranking dun natin i-post sa ranking section  Cool

We'll ask Admin Jong to add these details in the player profiles. Gusto ko sana i-nominate si Bro Francis as one of the evaluators.  Other than playing well, he has attended almost all our EB's and familiar with the ratings.  By this time, I am sure may idea na sya on the playing skills of those we played with in the past.  What say you, bro francis?

i don't have any problem with bro louie's nomination but using a tennis ladder, we will eventually not need an evaluator as long as we all agree to the would be tennis ladder rules and rating system. But the tennis ladder will definitely need an administrator for the challenges, matches, ranking, etc.

Well, initialy, may be, we need someone to make an evaluation. But we can also do a self-assessment first using the NTRP rating posted here http://tennis.staticbluecreations.com/index.php?topic=28.msg80#msg80. The self-assessment can then be further verified by an assigned evaluator. I understand that in the US, this is done by a certified professional, in our case, the rating will be for PTO's use only. Para lang meron tayong basehan.

I suggest we create 3 groups each having a ladder of its own:
1- beginner - NTRP Rating: 2.0 - 2.5
2- intermediate - NTRP Rating: 3.0 to 4.0
3- advanced - NTRP Rating: 4.5 to 5.5

It's group can have its own tennis ladder but a beginner can challenge somebody from the intermediate or advanced; intermediate can challenge advanced but not beginner; and advanced players can only challenge advanced players but not intermediate or beginners. So this would mean that beginners can earn points not only in the beginners ladder but also on the intermediate and advanced as well. And so on...

You know what, while we are waiting for the finalized tennis ladder of PTO, why don't we go ahead and use the tool provided by TennisEngine.com. I can create a league and just PM me where you want to be included. Pick a category below and indicate if you want singles, doubles, or both.

1- beginner - NTRP Rating: 2.0 - 2.5
2- intermediate - NTRP Rating: 3.0 to 4.0
3- advanced - NTRP Rating: 4.5 to 5.5

If it's okay with you please include also your email address and contact number so I can put this information in the TennisEngine database as well. I recommend providing me your email address which will be recorded in the league so you are notified of any league updates, e.g. challenges, your league username and password, etc.

Regards,
Francis
