The Philippine Tennis Association is looking at another busy year as a series of tournaments here and abroad have been lined up for upcoming netters and national team members.
The Andrada Cup Age Group Championships raises the curtain for local junior netters as its 20th edition blasts off onMonday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center (RMSC).
Other age group tournaments calendared are the MPC-Willie Hernandez Age Group on Feb. 14 to 15, 21 to 22 at the Manila Polo Club, the Mayor Rody Duterte Age Group on March 14 to 16, Aug. 15 to 17 and Dec. 20 to 23 in Davao, the Truflex National Age Group on March 30 to April 5 at RMSC, the Philta-Toby’s Juniors Age Group Tennis Challenge on April 27 to May 3 at RMSC, the 1st Alabang Country Club Age Group on May 25 to 31 at the Alabang Country Club, the Mayor Arsenio Latasa Age Group on July 18 to 20 in Davao, and the 2nd Racquet Sport Age Group on Dec. 26 to 29 in Davao.
Highlighting the year is the RP Davis Cup team’s campaign in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II tie, where the squad is pitted against Hong Kong in the first round on March 6 to 8 in Hong Kong.
The Davis Cup squad, the top seed in its group, is expected to flex its muscle against two more teams if they win the first round to reclaim their Group I seat at the end of the year.
Scheduled junior events are the 20th Mitsubishi-Lancer International Juniors on March 23 to 29 at RMSC and the Milo Junior Tennis Cup on Dec. 26 to 30 at the Phil-Am Homes Tennis Club in Quezon City.
International events such as the Phinma-ITF Juniors also fires off on Nov. 23 to 29 (Week 1) and Nov. 30 to Dec. 6 (Week 2) at RMSC, the Holcim-ITF Women’s Circuit Week 1 on Nov. 9 to 15 at RMSC and the PLDT-Smart-ITF Women’s Circuit Week 2 on Nov. 16 to 22 at RMSC.
The Women’s Circuit stakes a total cash purse of ,000 per leg.
Satellite Circuits for the Head Junior Tennis tour are also slated on March 28 to 31 in Davao City, April 2 to 4 in Cagayan de Oro City, April 7 to 9 in Dumaguete City, April 11 to 13 in Bacolod City, April 16 to 18 in Iloilo City, April 20 to 23 in Kalibo, Aklan, April 26 to 30 in Cebu City, May 4 to 7 in Puerto Princesa City and May 11 to 14 in Baguio City.
The 14th Juntaphil Cup is also set on April 13 to 19 in Baguio City, as well as the Mayor Bernales Men’s National Open on Jan. 20 to 25 in Ubay, Bohol.
